HELP!!! I miss sex but after 17 years of being told i was infertile i now have a 7 month old daughter.

DP doesn't get on with condoms and frankly they are not my favourite thing either as the lubricant can sometimes cause me to become quite itchy aftewards. I cannot take the pill as it sends me nuts - complete Jekyll and Hyde - pinging off the ceiling one minute to suicidal the next. Dr's have advised against the Depo injection so pretty much leaves me with the copper coil or the mirina (sp) coil but i have no idea which is the better choice and the nurse at my GP was pretty nonchalant when i tried to ask her

Any thoughts ladies?

If the pill sends you nuts, I'd advise against Mirena. I've just had mine removed after only 5 weeks as the mood swings were terrible. This is not supposed to be a common side effect, but neither was the headache, hands swelling and going numb/tingly.

I didn't want hormonal birth control, so I had the copper coil first, but my periods were ridiculously heavy so they swapped it for Mirena.

I have PCOS as well, now have two DC and no plans for a 3rd, but we're out of options aside from DH getting the snip--and we're not quite ready for it to be that final.

I'd say try the copper coil first if you've any suspicion that hormonal birth control messes with your moods.

thanks hun that is great info and advice.

Did you find you PCOS symptoms were almost non existant during pregnancy? I lost loads of weight and although my exercise regime and diet haven't altered since giving birth my weight has ballooned again. I was wondering whether to take a gamble on the mirena coil to see if the hormones would be ok as my body is now a bit used to them being there if that makes sense?

Does having it put in/taken out hurt?? I am a total wimp with pain and was induced and on an epidural for labour!

Im also a PCOS suffer and have had both coils, but they didnt suit me as I got terrible pain with them. I had the copper for 7 months then my gynae changed it for a mirena. I had the for 8 months but the pain was just unbearable.

I too struggle with hormones but after seeing two doctors I agreed on a progesterone only pill as my imbalance is estrogen and testosterone so putting just progesterone in shouldn't have too much of an effect.

I agreed a 35 day trial, im on day 11 and im actually calmer and more relaxed then I can remember ever being, touch wood I'll carry on like this.

Unfortunately its going to be trial and error as to what suits you, I think the settling in period for a coil is 6 months. Although the copper has no hormones so shouldnt upset you, mirena is recommended for PCOS suffers as it also protects the lining of the womb.
