Cerazette - ARGH!

I know there is a zillion threads on this but they usually end with the OP saying they'll speak to the GP but then don't say what happened so I thought I'd start my own.

I have been on Cerazette for over a year, no bleeding at all, no nothing.

Then 3 weeks ago I woke up with the mother of all bleeds, and it's still going on.

As someone who has previous for periods causing severe anaemia this is getting a bit worrying!

Has anyone had similar and got an answer/solution?

There is no other contraception available to me and I'm not done having babies just yet (one more) I have tried everything contraception wise but my health rules out everything else, I thought this was the magic pill but now this has happened.

I had quite variable bleeding on Cerazette - it was roughly once a month, but not strictly, and variable in amount from "was that it" to "normal period". I've also had an implant and that was similar but much more infrequent and I almost thought I'd got away with no bleeding for about a year and then had a few small bleeds.

The GP said that's normal, just because you've had no bleeding for a while doesn't mean you will never get any bleeding - though that was the implant, it is very similar hormonally, and I was only on Cerazette to find out if I got on with that hormone regime before going on the implant.

I would definitely speak to your GP but my guess is normal variation, is the implant an option for you at all? It is as I say the same hormones, but I know a lot of people find even less bleeding.

I was booked in to have the implant 3 weeks ago, but chickened out at the last minute Blush I have only read bad things about weight gain, mood swings and bleeding. My sister recently had hers removed after a long, stressful time of side effects and miserable bleeding, bloating and low mood.

I'm happy to stick with the Cerazette as long as this bleeding stops, I can tolerate it if it's infrequent or light, a once a month period would be fine but 3 weeks of really heavy bleeding is horrible if it's going to be regularly.

I was on cerazette and it was a nightmare of three weeks bleeding then two weeks with none.

I went back to the GP and was put on micronor which is a different pop and I can't have the combined pill due to migraines.

I still have bleeding but its more like normal periods for me with 3-4 weeks with no bleeding and 5-9 days bleeding.

I found the implant better than Cerazette for headaches, MUCH much better for bleeding, don't think mood has been much different, bloating definitely not (I lost weight too but there were huge lifestyle changes at the same time as well).

I was on cerazette. Had varied bleeding also. The implant is the same chemical/hormone so if this doesn't work neither will that... Or so they say! Apparently nacrez is exactly the same. That's what I switched too and the bleeding stopped. However, there's now a supplier shortage in my area (East mids) so I'm currently waiting in the pharmacy for desogestrel. Shock

I was on cerazette and had constant bleeding, GP told me to come off it, sorry. I am now on marvelon which is fine for me.

I'm expecting a call from the lovely contraception nurse at the surgery this morning, I'm requesting to change,to something else, a different POP probably, 4 weeks now of heavy bleeding is making me feel like crap and destroying my sex life! Blush

Hope you find a solution, am glad you started this thread as I was going to ask to start cerazette (spelt wrong, sorry) tomorrow but am having second thoughts now.

Yes, it's definitely working as a contraceptive! If it wasn't for the bleeding it would be perfect, I can't have the combined pill, the coil or condoms so I'm rapidly running out of options!

It may work perfectly for you MrsSpencer. It did for me, for years!

Like I say desorex is what I'm on currently as nacrez is out of stick everywhere. 75mg of desogestrel is what you want anyway.

My mil is a hv/family planning person. She'd never heard of desorex or nacrez, nor are they mentioned in her book of all drugs. So you may fight a losing battle but push on regardless Wink

I was on cerazette for a while (5minths) and bled constantly. I also had the most horrific mood swings. (Great skin though...) had to come off it before Christmas. Nightmare.

Apologies if this is an ignorant question, but are you sure you can't use condoms? There are latex-free condoms.

there are now quite a few mini-pills that have a arrived recently that have the same ingredients as cerazette but are cheaper - another one is cerelle.

I tried micronor and femulen mini-pills before ending up with cerazette (cerazette stopped my periods for a few years until I got the mirena coil)
