Tell me what you do not like about mirena or copper coil.

First of all, I wish you all a Very Happy New Year 2014 Wine. It is going to be brilliant! Stay healthy!

A few days ago my copper coil was taken out. I had no pain when having it but the periods were heavy and long ( I don't eat red meat so low on iron). I also wonder whether lack of iron has affected the condition of my gums as they have become sensitive. Another thing is I have more spots, milia on my tummy and arms and I did not have it before having this coil. I think I also had a lack of libido but not constantly.

I wonder whether I should try mirena coil but not sure. My hair thinned a little bit and somewhere I read mirena can also lead to it. I wish I did not have it at all but my DH will not try anything except condoms which kill all the fun because it takes ages to put one on.

The reason why I am also asking about copper coil is because I would like to see whether other people had similar symptoms to mine.

Many thanks.

I am so pleased with my copper coil. The inky change I noticed was that my period takes longer to 'get going', it's strange but I have a very light period for about four days, then a normal one for the following three. Periods have not been heavy, or painful and it's not affected me hormonally in terms of libido or mood swings. I haven't noticed any spots like you describe OP.

As I understand it, the mirena releases hormones, and the copper coil doesn't- so the mirena presumably is more likely to cause hormone related issues. I didn't get on with the pill (mood swings, weight gain, reduced libido), so I avoided the mirena.

www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/woman-504/sex-contraception-48/785357-copper-coil-blame-all.html Thank you letsbehonest for your response. I have been doing some research and think I might give myself a break for a few months before going for another IUD.
Sorry wherever I try to post a link on mumsnet using my tablet it always pastes not in the right place. It is really annoying.
So back to IUD, I think I am not sure about Mirena as it is hormonal. I might go for another copper one but I will have to do something to balance the copper leves. Apparently those who have low levels of iron can have copper toxicity. I will also need to take zinc regularly as copper leads to its disbalance. So lack of zinc and iron can lead to low libido, poor skin, nails and hair. I think low iron also might lead to migranes and anxiety. Copper coil does not look that harmless in comparison to Mirena afterall. I told my DH that I am not going to use any contraception till spring at least as I need to see the normal myself. Will have to stack on condoms then.
I am so fed up there are no implants for men but would they do it?

I have found that the mirena has lowered my libido and general mood and that I get random shooting a lot of the time

Honeydukes · 04/01/2014 10:00

Sorry posted too soon - I get random spotting

Honeydukes · 04/01/2014 10:06

Dam did it again - so I'm planning on having it removed but just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for you

I went for copper coil after a bad reaction to Cerazette the second time I took it (really bad PND that vanishes within 48 hours of last pill).
Very happy. Only issue is that every 2-3 weeks I get what I suppose is a period, but so light it's just a smear of blood for a few days. But then I didn't have periods at all before I got pregnant. And have excellent iron levels.

OP - do you find you can increase iron levels with lots of poultry and green leafy veg? If that doesn't work might be worth checking your B12 levels.

I was on the implant before getting the Mirena. The only negative thing about the coil is that it hurt like fuck being inserted. But since then no periods! Weight loss! Happy moods! I'm so glad I got it done!

he-he, re random shooting. Hormones.

Not citrus, I am not a big meat eater but I do it turkey and chicken and take vitamins (not regularly though). I think if I do go for the copper iud again then I would have to take a better care of myself in terms of nutrition.

Have not had sex since taking it out (one week ago). Condoms are out of reach. must be moved somewhere closer to our bed.

The doctor didn't want to take it out. He reduced me to tears and made me feel like I had committed a crime. It looks as they go by one book and not even bothered to do some research on the internet.
