Hi, I'm thinking of getting sterilized. I'm 38, just had my last child after 4 very complicated pregnancies. Has anyone else had the op and if so how did it go?

Got my tubes tied during my last c section. Absolutely no problems so all very positive except...it's so final!

I have finally had my date through of 18july Hoorahh. It was a bit difficult to organise as they don't like to do it. You might swing it on the complicated pregnancies. I tried the mirena, which has been awful, and threw a paddy. I am 49, have 4 children, three of which I haemorrhaged after having. The consultant was brilliant. If it is what you really want go for it and dig your heals in.

Would also be interested in others op experience.

I had it done when I was the same age as you, I was sure I never wanted to be pregnant ever again.

I had to go in around 11, op was at 2.30 I think. Because I can't take codeine or ibuprofen I had to have a morphine based painkiller. They didn't let me out until I had peeed which was quite late because of the morphine but I drank masses of water to try & pee.

I spent the next day in bed as I had been told to rest & with 3 young children I was very happy to have a day off. My youngest was coming up for 5.

I had some pain which I think was due to adhesions about 6 weeks later, really painful for a day or two but that was it. I can't remember any restrictions on driving, I think I wasn't allowed to run for 2 weeks.

I had it done 18 months ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I have 3dc all conceived whilst using contraception, so been sterilised has taken a lot of worry away.
I went to hospital in the morn and had the op dinnertime-ish. I was home early evening after coming round from ga and going to the toilet.
I rested the following day but was back to looking after 3dc (youngest was 3months old) the day after, which I wouldnt recommend as it was painful trying to pick ds2 up.
I recovered well apart from pain in my shoulder, which is apparently an aftereffect of ga.

I just noticed my typo. I am actually 40!!! However on some days feel 49! Thanks for sharing.

im 36 and i had it done 18mths ago. It was absolutely fine and straightforward.

Only pain i had was in the shoulders from the gas they use for keyhole surgery

I had it done when I was 22, the op was dead straightforward and I was up and about the next day with a tiny bit of pain in my shoulders.

I'm now 34 and the reversal was a damn sight more painful and more expensive!

Simple op just make sure it's definitely what you want :)

I had my tubes tied (keyhole) at 32 after three children. Recovery was fine even with an arse of a husband sulking except for that shoulder pain! Oh, and some vaginal bleeding, which I wasn't expecting. I can't remember what they said they'd done now, but actually felt quite violated at the time as I didn't know they would be doing anything vaginally.

I had my post natal check up today after dc3 and as after my other two children asked for this and finally my GP agreed and referred me . Was going to have if do e during ELCS did dc3 which I then decided against having (for medical condition) as worried about recovering with two other you g dc then had EMCS in the end grr!!

I finally had mine yesterday. I feel ok in myself. Very sore and bruised. But lying in bed listening to the chaos downstairs!

Had mine done during Elcs with number 3 six weeks ago. I am 35.

I do feel 100 percent confident I never want to be pregnant again, and four kids not really practical for us.

I got sterilised with the Essure procedure- no op and no GA; it was painless and I am very happy with it!

Got it done on NHS after I googled, found it, and persuaded them. I didn't want an op, and didn't get n with the Mirena. Worth a look, I reckon?

I had it done when I was 30 (nearly 20 years ago, gulp!) - no problem at all, one day at home in bed resting but no pain (just fatigue & stiffness). Best decision I ever made. It does wonders for your sex life!
