Femulen/micronor experiences?

Hi all,

I'm 24 years old, and I was on Cerazette for 4 years. I had no periods, along with NO sex drive whatsoever. This was starting to effect my relationship, so 6 months ago I came off Cerazette. My sex drive came back, and we have used condoms since.

As well as my libido, I also wanted to get my normal regular periods back, but my first period after stopping Cerazette was 11 weeks later, the next was 6 weeks later, the next was 9 weeks later (my most recent) - so all over the place basically. Very heavy, and I never have a clue when I'm going to come on, which can be very awkward. So now my body won't even give me normal periods when I go natural, all because of this stupid libido-killing pill I was taking for 4 years.

Have any of you ladies tried any other minipills as an alternative to Cerazette? I'm thinking of asking my doctor for Femulen/Micronor, to resolve the complete disappearance of my sex drive with Cerazette. It would be nice to have regular periods too, but since this isn't happening even now I'm pill-free, I may as well try a different minipill regardless of what it will do to my periods.

Another issue is that me and my boyfriend are going away in June to volunteer abroad in a very remote place for a few months, so I desperately need to sort out these random periods before I go!

Just looking for any experiences/advice/recommendations regarding other minipills!

Thanks!

(NB: Implant/injection isn't an option as this is the same drug as Cerazette. Coils are also a no. And as much as I'd love to, I can't take the combined pill for medical reasons.)

I've been on Micronor for a numbers of years. Similar issues to you with combined pill, plus random circulation issues (apparently unrelated, but disappeared Hmm and weight issues).

I prefer Micronor and have had no problems / near misses etc. My only real issue is that periods can be very erratic, although when they do turn up pain is minimal & they are lighter. I had light & regular periods before.

I do find a bit of a tendency to swelling / pain in the boobs that I didn't have before, but I can't say with any certainty that it's the pill causing this.

Other thing is I do find the docs constantly pressuring me to go on a long term. Not sure if this is targets, cost or that they don't trust me to manage the shorter window to take the pill, but it happens fairly often.

Thanks for your reply. Doc was always trying to push me into the implant/jab when I was on Cerazette - I think it's to save the NHS money.

I'm not bothered about sore boobs or weight gain, all I want is a pill that won't affect my libido, and will give me regular (or no) periods!

3 hour window isn't an issue for me as I always used to take my Cerazette at exactly the same time every day.

I have just changed from cerazette (sore boobs, privates and constipation, no periods) to femulen (boobs less sore in a different way no swelling in privates and reduced constipation and I have libido!)

I have used it before and had no periods whilst bf and 4 weekly ok ones later. Changed to combined for greater security which gave less libido but periods I could time to the minute. I have had to come off it and onto POP again and prefer femulen.

Thank you for your comment, I think I will ask to start Femulen. God knows what it will do to my periods, which have been messed up since I stopped Cerazette (11 weeks, 6 weeks, 9 weeks... argh!), but I guess it can't make them any more unpredictable than they are now, and hopefully it will at least make them lighter!

I had fortnightly periods with both femulen and micronor which is why I ended up on cerazette.

p.s. the implant/injection do not have the same hormones as cerazette as cerazette has Desogestrel as the active ingredient whereas Nexplanon (the implant) uses Etonogestrel and the injection uses Medroxyprogesterone acetate.

There is more info here

pps I wouldnt advise the injection as it made me bleed constantly and I put on hundreds of weight

sorry, me again - another mini-pill available from another 'family' of mini-pills is Norgeston which has the same hormone found in the mirena coil.
