Can I trust Cerazette or should I panic?

Please help!
DS is 10 months and still bf. About a month ago, we sleep trained him and since then he's never been fed at night. My period returned after 3 nights of no feeding. It was a very heavy one! So 1 week ago I went to my GP and asked to go on the mini pill. Up until then we had used condoms the very few times we have has sex since DS was born. I think the GP said I could start trusting it to work after taking it for one week, so last night we has unprotected sex. I'm panicking though! I read somewhere else on MN that people get pregnant on Cerazette! What shall I do? I definitely definitely don't want another one!

My doctor said it was 5 days. When I questioned her she said well, actually 3 but we have to say 5. I can't comment on the % reliability it offers, but you may hear more 'it didn't work for me stories' about it because it is so widely used. All methods have their failures, and if you are definately that you don't want any more,I would recommend a coil.

Have you used the my contraception tool on the fpa website?

netdoctor says this:
You can also start taking this pill at any other time in your cycle if your doctor is reasonably sure that you are not pregnant. If you start taking this pill at any other time in your cycle, you will need to use additional contraception, eg condoms for the first two days of pill taking.

I used cerazette for over 3 years with no issues (and very few periods too).

I was fine on Cerazette, changed to Nuvaring for ease of use and am now fecking pg. Hmm

Stick with the Cerazette! :o

You guys are fab! I did google it but couldn't find anything specific to starting half way through a cycle!
Is a coil more reliable? Or do you mean coil + cerazette?

Nuvaring isn't a coil, its a contraceptive ring that you put in for 3 weeks and then remove for 1 week (like the timings for the combined pill). I don't think it is advised while breastfeeding. You could use a coil while bf. You could have the copper IUD or the Mirena IUS (mirena has hormones in it)

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 03/12/2012 12:31

I've had both of those coils (contraceptives don't agree with me), the mirena was great but gave me sciatica like pain, I am told that experiencing that is practically unheard of though.

If you are good at taking the pill then cerazette is great, if not, the mirena is probably you're best bet. It has a lower failure rate than the copper coil and doesn't usually give you heavy periods (copper coil can be really bad for this).

I'm probably in the very small minority with the nuvaring.

I had a google and most sites say cerazette is effective after 2-3 days.

There are different statistics for the effectiveness of the pill, one based on ideal use, and one based on normal use. The normal use gives you an idea of how effective if you are no spot on about taking it at the same time every day, miss one occasionally, or puke, for eg.

If you look at those statistics, the coil has a better success rate.

I'll see if I can google some stats for you.
