Side effect of the Pill?

I take the Yasmin contraceptive pill. It is the most suitable for me that I have tried as others give me either horrendous acne or severe PMT.

However, the last 6 months or so I have noticed a couple of things that I am wondering if I should be concerned about. One is that I have been getting a severe headache/migraine on one of my pill-free days. The other is that the last pill-free day I have been getting bad night sweats.

Has anyone experienced similar? Is this normal?

I am 33, have no DC, but might start TTC in about a year. I am seeing the contraception nurse for a check up for the repeat prescription today, but was hoping that people could share their experiences of whether this is something I should push to be investigated or if it is normal.

Oestrogen withdrawal causes the headaches (and may explain the night sweats). I'm afraid I have no idea if that is because of menopause, or too much oestrogen in the pill - you would have to discuss that with your doctor. I used to get the headaches and used to have to carry a bottle of water with me to avoid getting thirsty to stop it happening.

I am on POP now, and do not get the headaches (just bleeding and constipation.........)

My recurrent headaches stopped when I was on the pop. It was great. When I came off it they were back again. Yuck.

Talk it over with the nurse. Did you suffer from headaches a lot before using the pill?

Hi, Thanks for the replies.

I spoke to the Dr who said that the headaches and the sweating are likely to be due to changes in hormone levels during the pill-free days, and that there is unlikely to be any underlying hormonal change, or I would experience symptoms throughout the month. She recommended that I just shorten the pill free days, as there is no clinical need to have a whole 7 days pill free.

Hope you find it is a good strategy for you. Xmas Smile
