Im 40, dh 32 and dd is five. Dd was always going to be an only child. Ive been on the pill since I was 24 with the odd break. Im thinking of coming off the pill and the obvious solution would be sterilisation. Can anyone tell me would a doctor just refer me or do I have to go through the endless list of other contraceptives first. Does it hurt? how much time would I need off work? Any advice/views would be most helpful !

foxee do you know why they don't like to do a tubal litigation when you have a child under 2?

I am considering it - was offered it at the same time as my 3rd c-section 16 months ago, but the idea was rather "sprung" upon me in hospital waiting for planned section, so I said no on reflex rather than after thinking it through. I don't always feel I get all the info from my ob/gyne due to living abroad and slight language barrier, so reading on here to get a bit better informed before approaching the doctors. I have been advised against having more children due to poor condition of scar after 3 sections and dh won't discuss vasectomy (I know, but that is another thread I think)...
