Should I be scared of taking the morning after pill?

My husband and I had an er...misshap in the early hours of this morning. I have just got back from a late pharmacy and swallowed the morning after pill as I am right in the fertile part of my cycle.

Armed with some concerning advice from the lovely pharmacist and £23 lighter in the purse department I am a little apprehensive. He told me that I was likely to feel very sick but must try not to be sick for three hours until pill absorbed or need to have another pill.

He said tummy etc to be expected. I am now very nervous AIBU??

If you are mid cycle you might be better getting an IUD fitted. That has a higher success rate at preventing pregnancy mid cycle.

idontbelieveanymore · 22/05/2012 21:09

Yes yes I think you may be right Northern....

Don't forget though that you only have a 15/20% chance of being pregnant per cycle. Not sure what the success rate is on the morning after pill but that must made a significant dent in those odds.

PickledFanjoCat · 22/05/2012 21:11

Take the pill and get a coil!

DiscoDaisy · 22/05/2012 21:11

Another one here for whom the condom split so took the MAP. It didn't work and along came DS2(DC5). I was right at themost fertile part of my cycle.

idontbelieveanymore · 22/05/2012 21:12

Holy shit. Must phone doc and get a coil...

I took it, wasn't sick.

It didn't work........

PickledFanjoCat · 22/05/2012 21:15

Get a coil! Get a coil!

akaemmafrost · 22/05/2012 21:18

Um a coil wouldn't have worked for me I had an ectopic pregnancy.

DiscoDaisy · 22/05/2012 21:20

My friend had a coil. She won't again as her DS was conceived whilst it was in place!

PickledFanjoCat · 22/05/2012 21:22

Brick up your foof! Brick up your foof!

SingingSands · 22/05/2012 21:25

"Brick up your fanjo!"
I haven't laughed so hard in ages. Thank you PFC.

Bricking up....interesting.......does NICE recommend that course of treatment? Grin

PickledFanjoCat · 22/05/2012 21:51

Bet your glad you posted now op. you got to take the pill, get a coil fitted, brick up your foof and hope for the best! Maybe stick a condom on your head just to make sure nothing escapes

Seriously though you will be fine. Probably.

Northernlurker · 22/05/2012 21:52

I'd avoid walking under ladders too.

Gabois · 22/05/2012 21:57

I took it after condom mishap, and a week later had a 3-week period though I wasn't due for another couple of weeks. This was a few weeks ago. I am assuming I am not pregnant!

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 22/05/2012 22:03

Way to freak th OP out! Grin

I don't think it's true that the map only works if you haven't ovulated yet. I thought it did something along the lines of preventing a proper implantation.

Oh and I have been mildly nauseous (prob nerves).

OP posts:
Buckingfiatch · 23/05/2012 07:10

Probably more likely to do with being nervous.

I have took it, twice also. Both times, I had no sickness etc. But....

....the second time, 9 months later, out popped DS.

Booboostoo · 23/05/2012 07:22

Sorry to contribute to the freak out, but I also had condom split, took the pill, stayed pregnant - it was ages ago though so perhaps it works better now.

Buckingfiatch · 23/05/2012 07:45

Yes, was nigh on 8 years ago for me when I last took it. Maybe it has changed or been tweaked to improve it.
