Grr - bloody mirena - it has turned my life upside down and I've had enough! I am moody, grouchy and I always have period like cramping! Plus my libido has taken a nose dive! Its only been in for 8 weeks and I want it removed!

Has anyone else had problems with it?... do you think the Dr's will change it to a plain copper coil?

everyone I've ever spoken to about it Hmm

They don't like taking them out as they are so expensive.

You should be able o get a copper one though.

I had mine removed after a month for similar symptoms. Go to a family planning clinic. They can take it out and offer you something else. You have every right to demand it's removed. I know they cost about £100 but frankly they are one of the worst contraceptive devices I have ever come across. They work wonders by not getting you pregnant because you end up bleeding constantly, in pain, feeling depressed and fatter.

I felt like a cloud had lifted 48 hours after mine came out. I had no idea how awful I was really feeling till I got better.

Mirena was the best thing that ever happened to me from a medical perspective.

It was there purely to control horrendous periods, not for contraceptive reasons, although this is an added bonus.

I spot every 4 weeks for about 48 hours, have some cramping but nothing like the sort of pain that used to make me black out and my weight never changed. As for feeling depressed - I am naturally a bit of a glass half empty person anyway but what I was going through before was so awful that if I'm depressed it just doesn't compare.

I am now on my 2nd Mirena. The first was there for 5 years and as I am now 42 this will probably be the last one as they will just leave it there as my fertility will be so much lower. GP is more concerned about the effect on my periods - it all depends on how my hormones are in my late 40s.

I do know many people have not liked the Mirena, so if it isn't working for you then you must go back to your GP. Life is too short.

My mirena cut down on my pain and bleeding, but stretched it out so much that I never knew when I was going to be in pain or bleeding - at least you can more or leass predict a normal period, plan for it and you know what's going on! The pain of the mirena was horrendous for three months after having it put in (but I was prescribed some mefenamic acid which was very good for it so maybe ask for some of that?).

My weight has gone down if anything and I definately haven't been as grumpy as I was on the pill so they ae plus points for it.

It's very frustrating though, I felt very out of control of my own body and fertility with it needing a doctor to take it out and that being apparently very painful - stopping taking a pill is much easier!
