Has anyone else used lactation as a birth control? With dd and ds my periods returned almost straight away but tyhis time with dd #2 they have not. she is ebf with no dummy etc and is nursed on demand and sucks on demand. No longer than 2 hours during the day and no longer tha the odd 6 hour over night ( normally 4) she is 10 weeks now and i will probably ahve a mirena back in, although we do want on elast baby , ideally if im picky not to be pg till early next year...so dd3 is nearly 2 when last bub comes a long. But it i guess wouldnt be the end of the world if it was sooner... Dh works away alot mon- friday each week so to be blunt its not like we have alot of time! anyone else been there before... the reason behind not getting the mirena in yet is puerly lazy! i have the script for it... and had asken the hospitla for an appointment, it didnt turn up.. rang my obs consultant and she was chasing/ re booking it but that was 4 weks ago and still no letter. i think one of the local gps do them so i will go down that line eventually.. maybe... urmmmm bt do i really need to??

Well... the big problem with LAM is that you only know that you have started ovulating once it's already happened, if you see what I mean. So when you get your first post baby period, you have already ovulated - hence some women get pregnant without ever having a period.

I certainly wouldn't do it if you wouldn't be able to cope with closely spaced children.

Re: the IUD - why don't you ring the local family planning clinic & get them to do it?

sadly im in australia and we dont have family planning clinics so its the gp i dont know or chase my obs. Which i will do eventually.
The investigating ive done says lam is effective if i continue as i am but yes my concern is that i may have no period and be duffed ;0/ Which isnt the end of the world and we would manage but i guess im used to concrete and black and white family planning! which is why im a little unsure if i am mad! Dh is quite happy to just take it as it goes. If we have another one sooner its no stress.. My only real concern is that dd and ds were cs deliveries and i know i cant have a vba2c so thats not an option but surely its best for general pregnancy if my scar has a good heal time! hence the ideal 12 months thing. rather i guess than the close in age babies?
