I had the coil fitted about 4 weeks ago, before this I have had spotty skin and has calmed down when on the pill. I didnt want to go back on the coil as I had been taking it for 20 years. I dont know if it is the coil but my spots are just awful, especially on my cheeks, chin and around my mouth. Look like a teenager not a 39 year old mum! I am tempted to take the coil out but not sure if this is causing it. My hair seems to be greasy all the time too and I havent stopped bleeding for the last 10 days :(

I'm a huge fan of the Mirena, its solved all my Menorrhagia linked probs. I've had debilitatingly heavy periods since my late teens and after I had my 2nd child I decided enough was enough. I'm only 24 and they wouldn't do anything more permanent so GP recommended Mirena. Since I had it put in a year ago my periods have stopped altogether, I'm not anaemic anymore and I have so much more energy, mostly due to not being anaemic. That said, my skin has been awful, really spotty and like you said all over my cheeks and chin. My hair is pretty greasy as well and for a while it started to fall out :( Thankfully that's stopped now.
But I think with the Mirena, its a case of weighing up pro's and con's. For me, the pro's FAR outweigh the con's. I would take acne over extreme pain any day! My periods were so bad, for the first few days, the pain went all down the back of my legs. I was on 2 kinds of painkiller and a medicine called Tranexamic acid which is meant to control the bleeding. Even then there were days where I could barely walk. I'm a real extreme case lol but I'd say give the Mirena 6 months. It might seem like ages but sometimes things settle down. My GP prescribes a lotion for my skin called Zineryt which really helps the acne, my skin is pretty much back to normal. Maybe ask your GP for some and see if it helps.
Oh and do the list, you know good points, bad points. See which side is longer ;)
