Please shed some light...mysex drive has reappeared after a long holiday but i am not using contraception other than condoms (which me and dh hate) but im worried about starting contraception as i can only use the mini pill and the one i was using previously meant never wanting sex!

I also dont want to try a long list of options if i can help it as for the first time in a while i fell like me again and like it!

The copper coil shouldnt effect libido.

TMITuesday · 25/01/2011 20:46

Yes, try coil.

mummysmadhouse · 25/01/2011 20:51

I did think of that but unfortunately i suffer from extremely bad periods...have done from the start as a teenager i was precribed codine and was off school every month Sad

Have been advise that the coil would make things even worse Sad again

And the thought of havingit inserted

I have a copper coil but I think the Mirena is meant to make periods really light - worth finding out about. Having it inserted was fine really - especially since it's ten years worth of contraception at once!

midnightexpress · 25/01/2011 21:01

Well, I use the Mirena coil (not the copper coil) and I think you could strike it off your list of options. Great for the periods, shite for the libido, IME.

mummysmadhouse · 25/01/2011 21:11

midnight - many friends have told me the same thing Sad

Also you only have to open the family planning section on here to see the list of problems people seem to have with the mirena

Im thinking of trying a diff mini pill i was on cerazette previously

Would you like to try charting your cycles and using the infertile days only? You can check fertilitycare online to know more about this.

NotJustKangaskhan · 04/02/2011 12:27

I use a silicone cervical cap - a Lea's Shield. The material and design means it doesn't have to be sized, and while it reccommend using spermicidal lube, I've used it with normal over the counter stuff and haven't gotten pregnant while using it yet [knocks on wood Grin ]. The only problem is it's no longer for sale in the UK (not popular enough), but you can order it online - this site calls it Lea Contraceptivum and I bought from them.

AppleAndBlackberry · 04/02/2011 12:41

Something like natural family planning or Persona might work for you if you have regular cycles, but it depends how desperate you are not to get pregnant - think Persona is 96% compared to >99% for the pill.

mummysmadhouse · 06/02/2011 20:18

Thanks i have just checked this forgot about it! I have just started a pill today - micronor feel quite nervous about it so will just have to see how it goes.

I really like the idea of the natural FP but i often feel in the mood around ovulation (i think) so not sure if i could garantee having enough will power lol.

notjust your idea sounds like a good try. If things dont go to plan with this pill will def try it...bit gutted i didnt know about it sooner may order one anyway and if i get on with it still stop the hormones.

if progesterone only contraception is not working for you, maybe discuss with your GP switching to the patch or the ring
