Hi,

I'm new to this and am very wary about having a GP or nurse fit a coil but the drs seem to say its normal. I think I'd feel better if a gynaecologist fitted.

Has anyone been referred? My gp seems reluctant too.

I think it is fairly standard practise to have a GP fit coils now, that's my experience anyway. Why do you feel wary? Have you ever had a coil before? Smile

GP's have to be trained to be allowed to do so in the same way as a gynae would. You could be in for a wait for a gynae or alternatively pay privately to have one done.

Two of the GPs here have been trained to do it. No problems here, they have a clinic and are confident. I wasn't worried in the slightest :)

thanks. I'm new to the UK system and am used to having a specialist deal with these things. I feel a little worried about a gp as they don't deal with this all day every day....

I think i might just go private and feel more re-assured.

GPs do these regularly, gynaecologists hardly ever fit them. Where I live the hospital is not even funded to fit them so if soemone wants one they are sent back to GP for fitting. If you are wanting a "specialist" at coil fitting I'd go to local family planning clinic where they do hundreds every year
