what can you take when breast feeding ?

I suffer from migraines and endo both of which improved when on the pill. It looks like this is my last baby (bad pg)but am not prepared to get tubes done (yet) when I may need hysterectomy eventually. Consultant gave up on me & tried to persuade dh instead but we want everything ok with baby first.

Anyway this means I can't risk pregnancy and with the other stuff we want pill & condoms but which pill?

There is one, might be cezarette, I think that's the one I had. Sent me a bit mad though so I stopped it Sad.

I'm sure someone else will back me up or tell me I've got the wrong one!

You can take any progesterone only pill. Ie the mini pill but not combines.

You can also have the depo injection.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/10/2010 18:10

not combined pill that should say!

Dont recommmend depo it can cause complications with breast feeding. It was ok when i took but advice was different and friend who had her son a couple years after me was told not depo and breast feeding.

Ime i was producing milk 18mths after stopping breast feeding and had to have 4 lots of meds to help dry it up. In my case it was found to be the depo.

It didnt help that depo affected my mental balance.

Mental health is a whole other issue! I get major PMT (also causes the migraines) and was one of the reasons I went on the pill. Dh wants me to look into more long term contraception because I'm crap at remembering the pill but I'm scared to commit in case they don't agree with me where as the pill I can get rid asap if it doesn't.

Will look at mini-pill. Ilike to be prepared when they come asking at the hospital!

Any mini-pill (i.e. progesterone-only. should be fine when breastfeeding. Cerazette has a longer window in which you can take it each day than the other brands of mini-pill (if that's the sort of thing that's likely to matter to you) but is more expensive so you may need to talk your doctor into it.

If I go through the GP he doesnt usually bother about the cost Grin I've had loads of stuff he says he shouldnt do or that you are supposed to wait X weeks/months /years !
