Anyone? Considering this option but dont fancy being knocked out (worried i wont wake up) - i understand it can be done on a female now key hole surgery way and wondered if anyone had had one under a local eg. awake. How was it and where in country are you as nto sure our trust does.

I asked and was told general aneasthesia was best because your stomach is pumped with gas and it's not a pleasant procedure for the patient to witness! I was then informed of essure, a 10 minute sterilisation procedure for woman which is even easier than vasectomy. The falopian tubes are clipped through the vagina, so no scarring, instant recovery and no side effects. I waited months for an appointment to discuss, only to be informed on arrival that two weeks before, the clinical director had decided to stop offering essure to slim, healthy woman (Scotland).

"the clinical director had decided to stop offering essure to slim, healthy woman"

It surely isn't down to just one person's decision though? Can't you get a referall to another local hospital that offers it? I'm shocked to think that it's just a case of "computer says no" - is it? Shock

Me.

I had it done under a spinal and not a general. I really don't think it would be possible to have it done under a local but a spinal is doable.

I asked for this and it had never been done before at my hospital. They wouldn't give me an answer until the day as they said it depended on the team, whether they would agree to it or not.

I had no problem with witnessing any of it on the TV screen in theatre, you see all your insides on the screen as they're doing it. The worst thing for me was the fact that the spinal block works on gravity and for the proceedure they have to have the table tilted slightly head down. The block rose quite high on me and this combined with all the gas pumped in made me feel that I couldn't breath. Very bad feeling of having my lungs squished and that was a bit scary.
