had the copper coil inserted this morning (about an hour ago).
only hurt a little bit at the time. Took 3 diclofenac before (150mg) and in fear of very painful period cramps afterwards took another one when i got back home.
now feeling nausea and some "muffled" period pain. its just me and my baby son (13 weeks) but nothing specific to do today apart from collect my daughter from nursery at 5.30pm thank goodness. stay with me. i hope i dont regret the decision to have it fitted. that is all

MN-ing when I should be working and sternly telling myself I CANNOT HAVE CAKE FOR LUNCH.

I was interested when i saw your post because I'm thinking of doing this but was a bit worried about the pain thing.

Dr. Eldritch prescribes you a rest day with old films on telly and Ovaltine, and a little bunch of freesias you can buy yourself on the way to nursery.

We are very brave really, aren't we? Can you imagine men handling their bits being mucked about with the way we have to?

Have cake. I know I am, just had the last piece of lemon cake (not home made but still lovely) and breastfeeding baby and typing a list of places (the cheaper the better like local parks with ducks or garden centres with playgrounds I can take my little ones) to relieve boredom of daytime tv. (maternity leave will be over soon so need to do these things whilst I have time)
Copper coil is an experimentation for me. I have 2 babies and thats it for me, ive done this mainly for my conscience because i know 2 is as much as i can handle. husband not really interested, said he prefers condoms and doesnt want anything permanent "incase we have to have number 3" (except we grow the babies and do most of the looking after dont we so I conclude we should have the final decision and anyway coil is not permanent).
I didnt want any chemicals so went for copper coil although i know about heavier periods when the resume after breastfeeding.
so far the pain has not been too bad. at the time the pain was fairly intense twice but only for a few seconds each time
thanks for your prescription for my day, i hope you will join me for a cake lunch now!

Oh, ok you twisted my arm...

von81 · 18/08/2010 19:34

Ive had mine in 4 weeks, u sound very lucky I was in agony for 3 days!! But Ive never had kids so maybe why. I had a tiny bit of bleeding for a few days then had a period. ppl say they are heavier on copper coil but most ppl have been on the pill and has been that long they cant remember what a normal period is like!

choufleur · 18/08/2010 19:36

I found it easier painwise than having a mirena put in.

i did bleed for a long time after having it in, but worth it now.

lavender11 · 20/08/2010 10:34

ok, a few days on it is just sharpe contraction like pains occasionally and a sensation of having something in my womb. also some slight irritability like the beginnings of a urinary tract infection. Because I am breastfeeding I have not had any bleeding to speak of an am not expecting a period until I stop breastfeeding so I have that treat to come and the amount and pain associated with bleeding cannot be predicted in advance.
But can those who have had a copper coil uti fitted historically (i.e at least one month ago - choufleur is that you?) let me know whether the "contraction" like pains go away (i.e. does your body truely get used to it or does it go on for years trying to expel it?) and what about the sensation of fullness does this go away too? Anyway experienced cystitis with a copper UTI?

I have had one for 2 1/2 years and no contraction like pains after the first few days - heavier periods for a while but I don't think they are now (or maybe I am just used to it)

lavender11 · 20/08/2010 10:45

thanks nettee that is very helpful. on the whole do you think it was a good decision and did you have any other side effects you experienced(it sounds like you had relatively lucky and good experience with it on the whole)?

I know Ive not had mine in long but after 3/4 days my contraction like pains stopped. Areyours easing off yet? Try taking your diclofenac regular, Im on that too for my back pain. I felt like Id never feel normal again so Im pleasantly suprpised at the min I dont have any wierd feelings now and cant feel the coil now!

von81 · 20/08/2010 14:29

Another thing - I didnt know u dont bleed cos your breast feeding!! When I have my first Ill let it breastfeed till its 10 lol
