Swimming clubs near Cheltenham

Hi, I'm trying to find a competitive swimming club as close to Cheltenham as possible that has lessons from 7pm onwards or at the weekends. I've looked on some websites but they don't have a timetable - does anyone send DC to such a club?

My nieces go to swimming lessons at Cheltenham College on Saturday mornings.

Don' know much about swimming clubs, but one of dd's friends does competetive swimming, however she does her training at the pool in Tewkesbury for some reason. However I did find a link to Cheltenham Swimming Club which has an open assessment for juniors once a month:

Thanks, I've been in touch with them but they won't tell me their timetable until DC is assessed and I said I needed to know what the timetable for the squads were because if it was before 7 then there would be no point him being assessed. They still wouldn't tell me! Can't do Sat mornings unfortunately.

Well that's not very helpful of them is it?

DD's friend does competetive swimming at a pretty high level - she goes training every morning at Tewkesbiury pool at 7am (13 btw).

That's my problem trying to fit it round school and definitely couldn't do it at 7am as he has to be at school at 7:50am (don't ask).

Thanks for trying though!

they won't be able to tell you which squad he'd be in until he's been assessed - all the squads will have different training times

ime none of the children I know who've started competitive swimming have done early mornings - that tends to kick in after a few years

for example, at our club most of the sessions start at 6:30 or 7:00, however there's another club nearby where the junior squad has a 5:30 start

why not take him along to be assessed, then you'll get an idea of how good he is, and if they can't help you then they may well know another local club who can

that's 6:30(etc)pm, not am!

Our problem is that we are moving to gloucestershire and the school is in Cheltenham. It doesn't matter where we live - gloucester, stroud, tewkesbury, cheltenham, cirencester etc but if we moved to one area and realise we can't fit the swimming sessions in then we would have moved to another area as I'm not going to drive miles to get to a swimming club. He is very talented and lots of other websites have squad timetables online. I don't know what squad he will be in but by seeing other timetables online I have been able to discount many because even the high up squads start too early. I'm not in a position to drive 150 miles on a specific night just for him to have a trial either.

However I have noticed a club that swims at St Edwards School and I think we'll be able to fit that in.

If you know what his PBs are you could call the club, tell them his times for different events and they'd be able to give you a better idea of where they could fit him in

But if he's not already swimming competitively they will need to assess him as they would need to be sure he could keep up with the rest of the squad and that his technique is legal etc

different swimming clubs can also have a very different ethos - i.e. some are focussed purely on competitive swimming, others on keeping kids healthy and active, so the right swimming club for your child might not necessarily be the closest one or the one with the most convenient sessions

You've probably got the swim club sorted now, but just in case....
i can safely say the most extensive and flexible training sessions of any swim club in the Cheltenham area is Tewkesbury SC
