I'm not a Beaver's leader, just a parent of a child who attends a fantastic group.
My son loved the blind food tasting session. What things have you got available to you in the way of equipment ie parachute, balls, inflatables, and what's your setting like? Indoors, small, outdoors, woody etc?

thanks we have a mediumm sized green area outside. not sure what we've got really. must find out. on our course someone mentioned burying certain items in the garden and seeing what happend to them over course of few weeks.

blind tasting sounds good - what did they taste? thanks

Our Beavers seem to do a wide variety of things:

? Trip to a local park / nature trail
? Play lots of Games (Games Night)
? Visit the Fire Station
? Have a water fight
? a Nature Trail or Treasure Hunt
? Make things out of just about anything!
? Invite someone from the community
? Music evening with camp fire songs
? PLants seeds (cress or sunflowers) and learn about things 'growing'

Tonight with Beavers we went on a hike to a local wood. Just ran about and let off steam really - took some sweets, talked a bit about what we might see (animals, birds etc).

Played Stuck in the Mud at the end. They seemed to like it. I think at this age it needs to be v v simple.

ALso mine like craft activity; any kind of food thing eg making popcorn, chocolate apples etc, esp if they can then decorate it (and eat it of course).

Now weather is nicer you could arrange races on the nearest field - three-legged, sack race, egg and spoon etc.

The food tasting was mainly fruit and veg if I remember correctly.
Another good game for the outside is the Gladiator game as they get to run around, do a bit of chasing and it has a humorous element to it too. I've done it will our group and they all seemed to enjoy it. If you would like the details I'll pot them in the morning (sorry but I can't keep my eyes open any more so i need to get to my bed .

okay, here goes. A grown up to start with is the gladiator and all the children line up as contenders (you may have to do it in two groups depending on your area and the number of beavers). You designate a 'safe area' and set limitations for where they can run between (for example, if it's in a sports hall with court markings on the floor they must stay within the outside line). The Contenders start at one end of the 'gauntlet' and must ask the gladiator if they may run the gauntlet. The gladiator will say somehting like "you may run the gauntlet if you have red socks on" those contenders are free to run straight to the other end. Once they are safely at the other end the gladiator challenges the other contenders to try and run the gauntlet without getting caught. After a 'get set go' call from the gladitator the others set off and race to the other side. Anyone tagged by the gladiator becomes a gladiator. Once all are either at the other end or caught, the remaining contenders line up again and ask again "gladiators, please may we run the gauntlet" and the gladiators choose another silly thing ie "you may run the gauntlet if you have a pink toothbrush/an aunt called Patricia/a dog called rusty/had spag bog for tea' and so it carries on until everyone has been tagged. It can get hairy obviously, depending on the number of children you have. It's safer to let the majority run the gauntlet safely and have a minority racing through trying not to get caught. At least this is what i have found! We usually play it through a few times before children get bored.

Hope that makes sense!! Good luck.

you weren't impressed with that then I take it
