Would I be insane to take a 2 yr old trampolining?

DD is 22 months and loves trampolines (at least, she loves going on the toddler trampolines). We were at the sports centre the other day and the local trampolining club were there and visible - so she pipes up "DD go bouncy bouncy". I asked at the desk, and whilst the club doesn't take children till they're older, they do have a weekly drop in session using full size trampolines that takes them from 2.

Now I think DD would love it, but I'm not convinced its an entirely good idea - any thoughts/comments/experiences?

DS loved it!

Why wouldn't you?

They don't hit their heads on the ceiling or anything

We go to a local gym where they have trampolines among other soft play stuff. My dd(2.5) loves them, but only for about 20 seconds then she's trying to run off, with me clinging to her 'no dd, mummy hasn't finished bouncing yet'

But I'd try taking your dd for a trial session and see how she gets on.

DS is 2 and loves our trampoline. I'm not sure I'd be happy with him bouncing on a trampoline without nets though, does the club have the net surrounds or not?

Sounds like great fun! I wish we had one round here! I can't see a reason not to.

DS went (from nearly 3, iirc) to a 'lesson' for 2-5yos. The teacher was wonderful, and he loved it - I would still be doing it with both him and DD if we hadn't moved.

I'm more worried about her bouncing onto the floor! The trampolines I saw didn't have nets, but whether that was because they were the club "proper" and (hopefully) knew what they were doing or not I don't know.

I did a little bit of trampolining at school. They never had nets - but plenty of people round the edge ready to push you back on (and we weren't very good so masses of height wasn't an issue). I just remember how much it could hurt if you landed wrong and I guess in the back of my mind is the question of how much more damage you could do if you're still at such an early stage of development. Or maybe you'd do less.

Oh well - I've a couple of months to build myself up to it! Thanks for the comments

Well, as long as your pelvic floor can handle it...

Tangle · 24/02/2009 23:33

Hang on - who said I was getting on as well? That really would ping the poor child into orbit

They bounce (intentionally and otherwise) really easily at that age. Just make sure she has long trousers and long sleeved top and she'll be fine. DS's class had the people-standing-round-the-edge system - and v. alert teacher.
