Anyone know anything about the harp?

DD has been having piano lessons for a term, age 6. She says she wants to try the harp now as well.
Do I even consider it at this age? Where do I start?

Bumping for you.

doncha just love google?

Apparently six is minimum recommended age, but yes. and get a small one. natch.

My SIL plays the harp. But she is 32. So that is irrelevant random information for you.

Very difficult to travel by bus. Up there with the double bass.

And I imagine, rather hard to find a teacher.

I would suggest you see if there is one locally before telling your DD she can do it.

I know they're also very hard to get into a car - anything short of a black cab or people-carrier may be too small!

They are very expensive.........

dd's friend plays harp (extremely well). They are just about to upgrade to a full sized orchestral one which will be phemnominally expensive and big. They also need a new car to transport it (& their existing car is already large for the current harp to fit in). It's one of the hardest instruments I think too.

So.. it's a huge commitment. If she's only been playing piano for a term I'd be tempted to stick with that for a good while longer before adding another instrument, especially another difficult & expensive one.

But, harps are dreamy...

Thanks for the advice
I know it's such a difficult instrument to resist. I've managed to find the website of someone I knew in my schooldays that plays- sent her a message I hope she replies with some good advice too!
I think you have to fall in love with an instrument to play it really well & I'm not sure she loves the piano enough- will have to take her to a concert to see if she still feels the same!
Thanks all
