So,

Can DD do a qualification in childcare while she's 10, maybe at nightschool?

hmmm, it depends. Has she been a really good girl? Also what time is the class? Does it interfere with story telling and bedtime?

S1ur · 08/08/2008 21:51

So long as she's completed her GCSEs by then

KatyMac · 08/08/2008 21:53

Well I think an NVQ3 might be a bit beyond her
A babysitting course?

She is actually excellent with the children but......a GCSE in something at 14-16 might be her only option

The British Red Cross run a babysitters course, covring basic first aid and things like changing nappies (cloth and dispies). I took the course when I was a teenage babysitter and found it really useful. But I think that participants need to be 14 - you could check it out though?

littleducks · 08/08/2008 22:00

i also wanted to do this age ten and requested info from those home study colleges advertised on tv.....quite why i wanted to do a course in child day care when i WAS a child i dont know now

KatyMac · 08/08/2008 22:01

So Red Cross do babysitting courses - i will investigate

She will be upset, she was sure MN could find one for her

Cat - I am a childminder & my job would be much harder without DD

This summer she has:
Organised games
Written out words (so they could be copied by pre-schoolers)
Taught 4yos to peel carrots
Made cakes (with younger children 'helping')
Dealt with arguments, upsets, bruises and tears
Written in the children diaries
Fed babies bottles

It has been a very moving tome for me

Usually either DH or I work & the other has DD - & often we go out. But this year DH has been poorly so DD has been 'childminded' all summer - I have been very surprised at her

She sounds a real star KatyMac

From a quick google, Red X looks like the best bet www.redcross.org.uk/standard.asp?id=74860

thisisyesterday · 08/08/2008 22:21

bless her, she sounds great!

KatyMac · 08/08/2008 22:25

I am impressed (&proud)

I may try to get her some accessible books (maybe aimed at NVQ1?) so she can start to learn about child psychology

The Red Cross have no babysitting courses between Sept & Dec this year anywhere in the country

Aaw KatyMac she sounds wonderful, no wonder you are proud!

KatyMac · 09/08/2008 23:35

Well I think so - but I am biased

I think it's really sweet when our older DC turn out to be so good with little ones - my DSs (12 and 8) are brilliant with little ones. It's definitely to be encouraged, in whatever way possible.
