Grade 6 and above (Piano: ABRSM)

DD is about to sit her grade 6 piano exam and needs to tighten up her sight reading. Any recommendations for a sight reading app at this level? It is the live feedback she needs, as she is reasonably good at finding her way around the music, given time - which is the one thing she will lack in the exam setting.

The ABRSM one only goes up to Grade 5.

Thanks!

I’ve not come across one for grade 6 plus. I just encourage them to sight read anything - old exam pieces, anthology books that we’ve not done all the pieces from. The Paul Harris Improve your Sight reading and Piece a Week books are great. You might just have to set a timer to get used to the time before, I often play along/put a metronome on especially to start with to keep the pulse even and make sure they keep going.

She could record her effort then listen back ( but don't try to work on the piece, just move on) Look at the criteria though, keeping going and getting the shape will score better than just right notes.

Thanks, was hoping there was something I might have missed but will order the Paul Harris book.

She could always do the performance-only option instead.

But it’s just a matter of practise, really. Get her a few compilation books (you used to be able to borrow sheet music from the library, don’t know if you still can) and get her to play around with them. Good practice for when she’s randomly asked to accompany people!

She made the decision a couple of years ago she wanted to do the practical exams.

Way more focused than I was at that age!
