Boys and ballroom and IDTA exams

I would really appreciate some wise words on boys and ballroom dancing and exams. I have no dancing experience at all!

Dd did a few sessions at a local Latin & Ballroom class which I had to take Ds7 along to as well, she hated it and quit pretty quickly but DS begged to try and he loves it. He's been in weekly group classes since January and is doing well according to the teacher, obviously I think he's amazing but I expect he is a fairly average 7yo really..

Teacher wants to enter him for Grade 1 IDTA exams - Ballroom and Classical Sequence. Is this reasonable? Are they hard? What does he have to wear?

I don't want him to fail and get disheartened, but he really fancies doing a competition (why? what goes on in his mind fascinates me) and apparently you need to pass your exam first.

And finally- he is noticeably the only boy in his class and there's only one other at the dance school. I don't think this is an issue from his point of view - is it a problem from a learning perspective? The next nearest dance school is quite a distance away and obviously no guarantee they will have any boys either.

I obviously should ask these questions of the dance teacher but she is very glam and very busy and I'm the mumsy anxious type!

It sounds fine.
Weve just moved and I'm struggling to get my 5 yr old to classes (work) but he misses it and I'm absolutely going to insist he does it. Women love a man who can dance. It will give him so many skills. He sounds fab. If it's a serious school the exams are simply added in and expected which is fine.
