Our local, now sadly ex-premiership club do sessions at the junior school I work at - I think the after school sessions are about £3.50 a time, but they also do drop in lunchtime sessions - about half an hour for something like £1.50. Lots of the Year 3 girls do it, but as they get older it tends to be more boys.
I think they also do sessions at the infant school, but I don't know details.

My DD2-6 does it twice a week at the local leisure centre. She loves her football.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 10/06/2008 21:27

Ah, thank you

Is it just trainers and shorts/tracksuit bottoms to wear?

Hadnt thought about leisure centres......will have a look at my local one for clubs too.

id get some shin pads and if outside, which most clubs are now as its summer you may need a pair of footie boots.

cascade · 10/06/2008 21:31

look at the youth teams in your area, then each club will have different age group training.

My DD is 8, and has been doing it for about 3 months. She usually wears T-shirt/shorts or tracksuit, but she is required to wear shin pads with ankle protectors and football boots. Boots and shinpads together cost just under £20. She started off with just trainers though and they lent her shinpads, until she was sure that she wanted to continue.

Dd3 plays girls footie for the neighbouring town. She was 8 when she started 2 years ago. They have under 9s, under 11s and under 16s at the moment. It costs £100 per year and you can join the league or just play occasional tournaments against other teams in the district. They provide team shirts and socks.

I think it is successful because the man who runs it is very dedicated and enthuses the parents as well. (Well dp, not me. You won't catch me getting up early every Sunday ) If you want to play in the league then it's two nights a week training otherwise it's just Sunday morning. Well, I say Sunday morning. It's suppose to be 10 - 11 but they're rarely home before 2. It's the dads you see. The girls play for 1 or 2 hours then the dads spend the rest of the time trying to outdo each other with their ball skills.

LOL wth

Thanks everyone. It's all new to me. And DH is not a football, or sport for that matter, fan. So I'll be doing all the sporty-type things as I did do some when I was younger, but it was swimming and athletics you see. And I was older.

I'm all for more girls playing football, i'm 35 now but played from the age of 11-16 and absolutely loved it, great exercise and fun as well, just make sure they have shin pads, i didn't and the front of my legs are a mess now, was worth it though
