Any drummers /e-drum aficionados in here? - advice sought on upgrading an e-drum

Hi

A relative kindly gave us their little used Yamaha DTX402.

My teenager has had 2 drumming lessons, and really loves playing.

She will have an assessment in June on technical competency, and will continue weekly in-person lessons up until then. The assessment means she needs to get her skill level up reasonably quickly.

I know nothing about drums/drumming - however, my research suggests that she needs to be proficient with the technical and performed aspects of using the bass drum, snare, and hi-hat.

I have upgraded the bass drum to a pedal/pad combo.

Would it be advisable to also upgrade the hi-hat and the snare? Or is the original DTX402 hi-hat and snare pad sufficient for a beginner to develop technical competency and performance quality?

Any guidance would be much appreciated 🙏.

Hey @JonasG ,

Thank you for replying it's really appreciated.

I ended up upgrading the Snare and the Hi-Hat trigger, along with the Bass Drum with Kick pad, so I think my child's got a reasonably decent entry level bit of kit now. I think if purchased new, the kit is akin to something in the DTX6 series.

We're also looking for a 121 teacher so may be in touch!
