Piano lessons: being your own child's teacher

I'm a professional piano teacher and would like to teach my own girls (current ages 6 & 3).

I'd love to hear tips from those who have embarked on this journey.

So far I've always only just let them mess around at the piano, having fun dancing, exploring, listening... I'd like to bring some formality to lessons now with DD6.

I taught my youngest 3 sons the violin and it was a lovely part of our relationship. We practised most days and always stopped before we had to! It's the Suzuki thing about finishing the lesson at the first sigh.

We played a lot of games and often had a written plan for the week, at group lessons I asked them to help me and I bribed them to be good!

Hello, I’m not a piano teacher (though got to Grade 8+ as a teenager). I taught my eldest up to Grade 5. It worked reasonably well and I tried to give her a lesson every week then help her with a proper practice on a couple of other days (and other practices she just payed on her own).
DD was around 6 when I started and we used the Piano Time series (and the into books) which I thought were quite good.
once she passed Grade 5, and was nearing her teens, she moved to have a proper teacher teacher than me which I think was the right time.

How did this go OP? I’m a piano teacher and my god, trying to teach my own kids is another challenge in itself 😆
