School ski trip cost

justasmalltownmum · 20/05/2024 21:12

My DC has just received the letter for their first ever ski trip.

Disclaimer: I have never been skiing. Will probably never go. So if I want my child to go, this will be the only way. However, not sure if this a reasonable amount..

So how much should a 5 day school ski trip cost?

Thankyou

Probably 1000 but depends on location. Presume it covers transport, accommodation, food, ski passes, lessons and equipment hire.

Dragonsandcats · 20/05/2024 21:16

I’d guess £1000-£1500. Is it 5 days of skiing plus travel?

Scarydinosaurs · 20/05/2024 21:16

£1600

Treesaleaving · 20/05/2024 21:17

It's around £900 for 5 days in France for my DC so anything between that and £1500. You will also need to factor in clothing on top of the trip cost such as base layers for each day and spares.

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/05/2024 21:18

£1200-1600 depending on flying or coach

DancingQueen2018 · 20/05/2024 21:18

Ours is £1500 for the week - 6 days skiing plus 2 days travel- coach to Austria. That’s all inclusive except some spending money.

Boxerdor · 20/05/2024 21:18

£1500 ish. Is it France, canada, USA? All depends where it is I would think.

tinytemper66 · 20/05/2024 21:18

Depends on when the trip is taking place. Feb half term is one of the more expensive times. Our trip to Europe (flying) is. £1485 in December.

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/05/2024 21:20

Wish you could edit in the app - depends where you are as well, we're near the se airports and Dover, if you're coaching down from Glasgow it will be more.

menopausalmare · 20/05/2024 21:21

£1550.

MumChp · 20/05/2024 21:23

Expect anything between £1000-2000 + clothes.

DontBiteTheCat · 20/05/2024 21:24

My son went this year. £1100 total which included:

Travel by coach to Austria
Accommodation
Insurance
Helmet and ski hire
Five day ski/lift pass
Breakfast and evening meal
Lunch on the mountain
Evening activities such as a swimming trip and an Italian restaurant
One ski lesson at a centre near us before the trip

Yellowflowers7 · 20/05/2024 21:29

Ours was £1300 last year to France. We could pay £100 per month though in the run up which helped, he did love it to be honest and good as none of the rest of us are interested in skiing!

TheBottomsOfMyTrousersAreRolled · 20/05/2024 21:29

Id say upwards of £1k

sunshineandshowers40 · 20/05/2024 21:31

£1700 for next years ski trip- DC isn't going!

TheChosenTwo · 20/05/2024 21:32

Ours is £1800 this year, 8 days, 3 days travelling (1.5 each way) and 5 days skiing.
They said the reason they’re going by coach is because it has cost only £5 more than last year with the price hike of flights, it would have been a few hundred pounds more if they flew.
This covers everything except some spending money, lunch on the first day and obviously we will have to get the clothes.

You can hire ski kit

Edit: as in trousers and jacket

notanotherrokabag · 20/05/2024 21:48

Depends on time of year, resort, and if 5 days skiing or 5d including travel.

TheaBrandt · 20/05/2024 21:51

Skiing in the Alps is one of the most expensive holidays you can do. Used to be the preserve of the super rich only. We paid I think just over £1k. The school tried to keep the cost down by staying in a really shit hotel. Wish we could have paid a little more so they could stay somewhere abit nicer

Coffeeandgranola · 20/05/2024 23:46

Easily £1500+ but as others have said, the details including where in UK you're travelling from will impact.

Are lessons included, if your DC has never skied before? If so this would put it closer to £2k I'd say. If not, you might want to factor in sending them on a few at a UK dry slope ahead of going so they can grasp the basics as you can't really pick these up on your own over a few days.

TheChosenTwo · 21/05/2024 00:00

@Tooski maybe we can, I think on the letter it said we needed salopettes and a jacket, I’ll look into this more as we bought crazy warm (and bloody expensive) jackets for their school trip to Iceland - we may be able to reuse, they’ve been hanging up since the trip and never worn again as they’re ’so unfashionable’ - you know, just plain dark black practical jackets 😂 mind you it doesn’t really get cold enough here to wear them so I can’t blame them entirely!

Wonkypictureframe · 21/05/2024 00:06

Vinted is great for ski clothes. Especially for kids.

Next year’s one is £1600, flights and in Feb half term for seven days. (Mine is not going but I saw the letter.) The kids who have never skied before get taken for a day at the local snozone but then spend the week learning in the beginners group so no extra lessons needed.

ichundich · 21/05/2024 00:08

At our school it's £1,900 for 5 days in France! Obviously our kids won't be going.

DontBiteTheCat · 21/05/2024 07:33

Forgot to mention our price included ski school for 3 hours a day too, many of the children had never been skiing before. After looking at some of the other prices here I’m starting to think we got a bargain!

ncsurrey22 · 21/05/2024 16:01

ours was £1,500 and that included 5 das of 6 hours skiing (2x 3hrs) and flights etc. 2 years earlier the same trip was £1.2k.
