Ideas for clubs please

Hi all

My 2 children both have asd and my son also has adhd. They both really want to try out some more clubs. My son currently does cubs and football but is quite keen to learn the drums. He’s 8. Is this too young?

My daughter is 6 and does beavers and is naturally quite shy. She absolutely loves beavers though. I’m thinking it’s better for her to go to clubs not attached to the school so she can make other friends. Does anyone have any ideas. She is terrified of swimming so that’s out.

thank you in advance. X

Swimming is a life skill so probably even more important that she has lessons to overcome her fears.

DS9 does/did Beavers/Cubs, swimming, tennis, cricket, horse riding, scuba diving, ice skating, shooting, junior parkrun, choir at school, French club at school.

Ask them what they want to do?

Things that my kids have done over the years:-

Swimming
General music lessons
Various dancing
Gymnastics
Trampolining
Athletics
Cross country running
Cycling
Tennis
Triathlon
Netball
Rainbows
Brownies

And probably some others I have forgotten. I now describe the main landmarks of my (famous, historic, beautiful) city as “just up the road from tennis” or “on the same street as dancing”.

It's really important for them to learn to swim, maybe try private lessons. Horseriding is great for ADHD and autism, either try RDA or find a BHS stable which is sympathetic. Drums has been proven to be really helpful for these conditions too, helpful with self regulation etc. A disability multi sports club might be good too to try things out.

Both my 2 DS's have ADHD and when they were small the consultant told me it helps if they do clubs like swimming, running, trampolining, football or anything else that gets them to burn off their excessive energy. I was advised to buy a trampoline and get my youngest son to bounce for 20 minutes before taking him to school. It actually did make him calmer.
