Gymnastics invitation to trial

Just that really. Had an email saying that my dd is being invited for a trial for more advanced lessons and that if successful we'll be given details of the lessons following this. I'm just wondering

  1. Is this something they offer all students or is it because they genuinely want to train her more to competition standard etc?

  2. If she's succesful any guesses how many hours/nights a week she's likely to need to commit to? Are the times likely to be flexible?

I realise that this might be stuff that only her own gymnastics club can answer but just wanted to see whether I can guage an idea of the level of commitment that will be expected as her schedule is already quite full haha. Thanks

At the club mine went to it wasn't offered to everyone but was to quite a few who showed potential. It was 2x2 hr sessions at that age going up to 3 2hr sessions at 7 and don't know beyond that as she left to train with a cheerleading team instead. She enjoys that more as loves tumbling and other children so the teamwork is great for her.

It 2 x 2 hour sessions a week at our local club for 5 to 7 year olds ….with extra session x 2 hours in the weeks prior to completions….so realistically 6 hours a week ……5pm to 7pm Tuesday and Thursday…..2 hours on a Sunday…..it’s a big committment

Thanks. We're going to let her do the trial and see what's what. We will then have to really consider whether we can manage whatever they offer alongside other commitments as she does another hobby that takes up quite a bit of her time already. I've asked her if she had to choose gymnastics or the other she's said the other so whereas it'll be nice for her to get more advanced training with the gymnastics I'm going to ere on the side of keeping it low key as I'm aware she'll need to choose one or the other eventually.

I agree with the previous posters. Just wanted to add that the club my child goes to offers no flexibility with training times at all. It's taken extremely seriously from a young age and you're expected to attend every session at the time they've said unless you have a very good reason. A note is kept of your attendance. Another thing to note is that my child's club train all year round, often having increased hours outwith term time because the kids aren't at school and are expected to be available. My child also does dance and for us there's a huge difference in the commitment and training that's expected of them in gymnastics.

Min 2x2 hours at our club too. We turned down the trial for DD as don't want that level of commitment and prefer she is able to try a range of activities when so young (also have a DS who is 1 year below and had to consider how I would schedule any of his activities in if I was committing to 2-3 gymnastics sessions for her

Now both are school age, they go there for regular gymnastics lessons together but absolutely no regrets in not pursuing the club level training further

It isn't offered to all at our club either. Just those that show potential to go into a competitive squad. Both my girls were 4 and did 2x 2hr sessions a week at that age. The hours have upped as they have got older. There were different pathways and different amounts of hours that they could have ended up on. This was based on the coaches decision.
Dd1 (11) now does 16hrs a week
Dd2 (8) does 12hrs a week.
It has become their entire life. I would like more family time but they both adore their gymnastics. Dd2 had to come out of a session early last week as we were going to a family event. She cried. Even though she was back in the gym a couple of days later.
