Anyone with knowledge of gymnastics?

Can someone help me out? My daughter is 8 and into gymnastics and various other sports. She's been at her current club for a long while and has recently passed the trial to join their competition floor and vault group (2 hours per week, mid-day on a Sunday). However, unless we keep up the recreational class (an additional 1 hour per week, mid-day on a Saturday) she won't get to do anything other than floor and vault. However, doing both takes up time on both a Saturday and Sunday and is very costly so I've been looking for other options.

She's therefore done a trial at another club and they have offered her a place in their intermediate recreational class for her age group (1.5 hours per week) on a weeknight.

I don't know enough about gymnastics to help her decide: Just floor and vault group or just the intermediate recreational group? She likes the idea of winning medals, but the reality of having to travel to different venues etc. on top of her other commitments puts me off. However, I want her to have every opportunity to progress in the sport, not to a seriously high level but enough to get the most out of it.

Can anyone advise? Thank you

Two hours a week at 8 isn't a serious gymnast. That's fine, I'm not criticising, but i just want you to be aware she'll be competing at a low level. Another thing to note is that gymnastics competitions are really boring. Has she the opportunity to go to one as a spectator?

I'd go with whatever club you like best/whichever parts of gymnastics your daughter enjoys most/what this best with your other commitments.

Thank you. Fully aware that these are basic competitions and I definitely wouldn't want her to do any more as she has so many other things to do. I think my preference is for her to do the intermediate group at the new club as it will probably be more enjoyable and hopefully allow her to develop new skills (the recreational class at her current club is possibly too basic). But I think she quite likes the idea of competing and existing club is very familiar to her.

One of my children did floor and vault and competed regularly, they enjoyed it and did enjoy competing, eventually moved into tumble. My other child did artistic and competed nationally. Id recommend sticking with the intermediate rec group for another year or so and see how she develops, it will be more varied and fun

Thank you. I think the new club will allow her to develop her skills more than the current one and then as you say, she can see.
