Best keyboard for practice for new-to-piano 7 year old?

My 7 year old recently started piano lessons and seems to be enjoying them so we are keen to keep the interest going by buying a keyboard for her to use at home. I've tried searching on here but found only fairly dated threads and am not sure if things will have moved on since they were posted. To anyone with more knowledge than me (so, everyone), what are your recommendations for a beginner's keyboard that won't break the bank?
Thank you.

I’m in the same boat!
No clue either.

If she's doing piano (rather than keyboard) the main thing you need is touch sensitive but you also need enough notes that you can play the pieces. A piano has 88 keys.

You need a digital piano rather than a keyboard for meaningful practice, what I don't know is what are the best affordable brands!

And there I was, clicking with excitement 🤣

I agree with previous poster a digital piano would be best. I got mine for £200 on gumtree, it was a very old Yamaha clavinova, 15+ years but it does the job for a beginner. Might be worth setting up some marketplace / gumtree alerts :)

Yamaha and Roland weighted key electric pianos do tend to keep their value ( if you need to sell it on) and they are both definitely the best makes to get ( Casio not so much although Kawai are also well respected but tend to be a bit more expensive.) I have a Yamaha p125 and absolutely love it! Look around because they can vary greatly in price.

We had a Yamaha p45 which was great but not too cheap. You can pick them up used on marketplace or eBay. It’s worth keeping an eye out as sometimes they come up reasonably priced

A second hand one. Invest some decent money when you're sure she'll want to keep it up (the vast majority don't).

If you’ve got the room and don’t mind the noise just get an upright piano. People are usually giving them away for free because nobody wants them these days.

You need hammer action weighted keys. Yamaha P45 is a good budget option.

Thanks everyone for your input - really helpful 😊.

There are massive savings on the Yamaha P-45 for black friday at the music shop we have bought 2 pianos from before. They deliver out of the area.

I have no affiliation, I just couldn't believe the discount.

We have Yamaha 105 - its ideal for beginners.
