9yo daughter interested in golf

She was selected to represent her school recently in some sort of golf tournament and really enjoyed it! She seems to have some sort of natural ability and is interested in maybe having some lessons. I have no idea about golf though, other than a preconcieved idea that it is incredibly expensive. Do golf clubs offer lessons for kids without us needing to remortgage our house for family membership? Any advice from parents whose kids play golf?

Hi - golf can be very reasonably priced for children and is great from a social point of view as well. Our club, which is a lovely well regarded course, offered a course for juniors which is £80 which had (cut and paste!)

13 weekly sessions lasting an hour on a Saturday (timings dependent on ability level).
Full access to all practice facilities: driving range, short game area and putting green.
Access to our shorter Junior Academy copurse layout on the main course. Unescorted use granted once a proficient level of play is achieved; determined by the PGA Professionals.
Four different structured attainment levels; awards given on progression through each level.

and junior membership is

Membership for Under 16* is £25; Thereafter £125
for 16* and 17* year olds. Juniors will receive a welcome pack and induction chat on joining.

*This is for Junior Academy Membership which includes England Golf Affiliation Fees and Insurance;
**This includes 2 lessons with our Assistant Pro;
Full details are availble from the Club Secretary.

adult membership is a different story though - that can be very expensive on a private course. But most are really trying to encourage girls like your DD so very reasonable.

Hi, that sounds really good. Which club is that that offers the junior program? Thanks

Junior membership at our club is £40 but half price for a year or two if they join after doing Wales Golf New2Golf group lessons which I think were something like £10 or £20 for about 6 lessons. There are possibly similar schemes where you are if not in Wales.

Your local golf club should have all details on what they offer juniors on their website.
