Hi All,

We were on holiday over Christmas the kids had two private tennis lessons for fun as they were really cheap! My DD is 6 and the coach said she did really well. She'd never really held a racquet before, but by the second lessons she was returning the ball to him over the net and having little rallies, I thought absolutely nothing of this, but the coach said it might show she has some skill.

I'd love her to have something she can feel confident about and I know nothing at all.

What is the best way forward? With swimming for example we tried leisure centre lessons and they were really ineffective. Sent them to a swimming club and they came on leaps and bounds! Is it similar with tennis? Are there some set ups that are just better at gaining skill while still having fun. She's only 6.

Thanks

Have a look on the LTA website. They have something called Youth Start for children from aged 4 upwards.

Most tennis clubs have turn up days at the start of the summer season and holiday courses. There may be an indoor centre locally or a sports centre offering short tennis as an introduction to skills.

We are lucky enough to have a local tennis club with lots of children’s coaching sessions. I really recommend it, if you have one nearby. They get to do local tournaments and have got quite good and they really enjoy it.

ok thank you!

I have a local LTA 0.7 miles away! Nice.

I'll look into that - thanks!
