Swimming lessons pool depth

My child is in stage 2 (got quite a way to go before she gets to stage 3 really)
She's 7
They've just last week made it so stage 1 and 2 are in the same pool now but being taught seperately by 2 different teachers at 2 different ends.
They've also decided to lower the pool depth to 80cm - it was 1.2m before

This seems very low to me. To me, it seems like it would encourage people to put their feet down and not keep swimming (which I'm sure my child does more now it's lower).
But after last week she came out saying it's too shallow she can't swim on her back in the shallow water and she also said this week she doesn't enjoy it cos of the shallowness

Does this seem a normal depth to have it at?

Level 3 is the first level when they swim in deeper water, if following the same swimming levels as my DS. Level 2 is shallow water and a small space, which was not inspiring DS at all! We upped the swimming to doing a couple of extra ‘fun swims’ during the week to get him progressing faster and into Level 3 more quickly!

When I take her swimming she never swims how she should be / how they're taught to though

It just seems strange to me how it's been lowered by as much as 40 centimetres. I don't know why they'd do that after it being 1.2
And I'm sure that if it's deeper they're more likely to keep stopping and put their feet on the floor

In that case ask the teacher.

1.2 would be far too deep for the 4-5 year olds in the stage 1 and 2 classes which is probably why. I have a very tall 5yo and she’s not hit 1.2 yet and they won’t have a group of non-swimmers in there who can’t standup. Surprised you had your stage 2 class in that depth tbh. I think our teaching pool is at 90cm. First level for the deeper water is stage 4 at our pool.

Oh right. So strange.
She's not happy it's been lowered.
But maybe it is normal to have it so low from what people are saying here. But even 90cm would be better than 80 in my opinion

We’ve moved lessons to a deeper pool (with a better teacher: pupil ratio) for this exact reason. DD is 6 and getting absolutely nowhere in a shallow pool as she just put her feet down at the first opportunity.

Ah right I'm glad you said this I was starting to think it's just us!
It's really limiting unfortunately as I don't drive. Which is why I've always gone to this pool (just normal council swimming pool etc)
But there's might be another private pool in walking distance thinking about it. Perhaps it's worth giving them a ring to enquire
