Dd has broken a finger a few weeks before her g6 piano exam. We are going to ask for a postponement but I was wondering if anyone has used visualisation techniques to practice. Would she look at score/ listen to the pieces or is it purely imagined?

You can look at the score or do it in your head if you know the score well enough. Scales can be done in the head. You can do it while listening to a recording or take smaller chunks and work on them slowly. I sort of twitch my fingers very lightly.

The "good hand" can still practice, and if it's the left hand, that's no bad thing as it's often the weaker hand.

Sorry your DD has broken her finger. Hope it heals soon!

Thank you, I will get her going on that and I will see if we can find a recording. Unfortunately the left hand is very badly bruised too, but hopefully she will be able to use it sooner than the right.

Oh dear, that sounds horrid! Important not to use the fingers before they are healed, as wouldn't want to make it worse. You may want to find out about hand physio exercises she can do when she is ready so she can build up her hand muscles again.

Yes, will hopefully talk to fracture clinic. Fortunately she has movement in them so hopefully a good sign.

Listen to a recording and follow the score!
