Drums for a 7 year old?

My DD is almost 7 and has been asking to learn to play the drums for about 6 months now.

She is aware of what practicing entails with watching her older sister learn the guitar (DH also plays guitar). She is quite mathematically minded - great at her times tables and numbers generally so I do think the drums might be a good fit.

Where do I start with this? I've been looking at practice pads. Is buying a practice pad along with some lessons a good idea?

Or just a practice pad for now with some YouTube videos for beginners to see what she thinks for awhile? Then look at lessons later.

I had also been looking at a cajon as an alternative to "regular" drums (don't know the proper term 😁). Could this be easier for her to learn from the outset?

Oh and we live in a detached house if that matters 😂 ha.

Ds started lessons at 5. Lots of body rhythm work and a bucket and sticks to start with. 3 months in he was ready for a drum kit and now percussion is taking over the house.

Personally i'd find a teacher first and go with the litt the suggest/ require.
Anecdotally ds hasnt found the cahon particularly 'easy' (though he has one) but he's a big fan og bongos, congas and djembe.

Thank you that's really helpful! I will definitely look for a good teacher first and go from there. DD is very excited!
