DC at Junior Trinity?

DD (14) just got offered a place at Junior Trinity for violin. Fantastic opportunity, and DD very pleased (though a bit nervous about totally new music school, and sad at leaving her beloved current teacher).

However, now the reality is setting in and I (and DD) having second thoughts. She will be in Y11 with GCSE's looming and we're worried about the pressure of a conservatoire. DD's a bit of a sensitive kid, iykwim, and was wondering if there's any pastoral care.

Also, if the allocated teacher isn't a good fit (I know they are all fine teachers, but sometimes the chemistry just doesn't work), I've heard that it's virtually impossible to change.

I would really appreciate any advice about Junior Trinity and experiences (negative and positive) as right now we're both confused.

Is there any way to find out which teacher she's been allocated and arrange a trial zoom lesson?

I have a DD at Junior Trinity - she's currently Y10 and will continue during Y11. It's been a really positive experience for her musically, socially and pastorally and deserves its reputation as a JD that genuinely cares for the students as human beings. I have no experience of other JDs to compare it to but I appreciate Junior Trinity's efforts to try different things whether that's adding ensembles based on the musical interests of a group, or looking at ways to offer something completely new. It doesn't give off a high-pressure vibe and my DD often manages to get school work done between sessions. If your DD is only having instrumental lessons on the violin she will probably also be in a choir, a small ensemble, large ensemble and musicianship class. If you're worried about the pressures of Y11 you could ask for her not to be given anything over and above this?

Tabby and Tim who run it are very approachable and I'm sure they'd do their best to reassure you and your DD if you were to get in touch.

SE13 thank you so much for this - that's extremely reassuring.
