Schools not teaching the right stuff for the 21st century

I've often wondered whether school would teach DS (age 10) and DD (age 7) the right skills for the world they'll enter as adults. Being under lockdown recently and seeing their school work has got my thinking...

School is great for the social side and core subjects, I just feel a there are some basic skills (like good diet, exercise, money management etc) that are only ever going to be taught in the home and valuable skills for the 21st century (entrepreneurship, creative thinking, coding, Chinese etc) that aren't the focus of our education system

Anyone else feel that way or just me? Perhaps I'm overthinking it?!

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has come across any good resources online on the best ways to introduce some of these extra-curriculars without being overbearing?!

The only one I agree with is coding, with the best will in the world most teachers aren’t knowledgable enough and it isn’t given the gravitas on the curriculum it should have.
Curriculum is a huge issue for some of the things you raise but a lot of it should really be covered by ‘parenting’ unless it is a chaotic household. Unfortunately it often isn’t as people do seem to think teachers should do it instead.
I’m not entirely sure what a lot of parents do with their kids to be honest, other then dress them up, pack them off to ‘extra-curricular’ activities’ and use them to make posts on SM to make themselves look good.

I think less homework would really help. There are skills that schools don’t teach well (dance, music, sports) that you need time to access after school. And there are family values that end up taking a back seat to the endless homework.

Homework should be scrapped in primary schools.

First aid would be great, cycling proficiency, forest school, money management, weekly cooking lessons at primary level. At secondary a wider range of subjects so that children can go down the vocational route earlier if it suits them. Cooking and life skills for everyone throughout secondary.

Looking at the work sent home from school has highlighted how dry and bland the work is.

Being able to work as part of a team.

Creative thinking.

Interpersonal skills.
