How much fundraising does your dcs guide group do

Just trying to understand what is average really. Dd has been in rainbows for a short period of time and we seem to be getting a request for funds every week or so.

I've asked the leader what we are raising funds for (trips/materials etc) and she's pretty vague in the response we mainly get told it's for the unit.....

We pay subs each week and the trips dd has been on had all been paid in full Inc leaders and transportation.

I don't mind fund raising and understand the leaders are voluntary but so far we've personally submitted 60 pounds in donations from selling raffle tickets, collecting coins and donating various items and dd has been there 6 weeks.

I've offered to assist in raising of funds and have suggested a few things such as a quiz night, film night and running a game at a local Christmas fayre where I'd managed to get a stall donated for free.

I've also offered to write bids in an attempt to get community based grants (I do this for work) all of which have been declined despite the constant requests for cash and the plea of no money the only reason I've offered.

What do your rainbows/brownies groups do for fund raising

I run brownies. Have only done 2 fundraisers. Both for young leaders going abroad to volunteer. One was a talent show and then a bake sale for the other. The brownies helped to plan and the young leaders showed them what they would be doing.

Well done for offering to help OP.

You'll need to be registered as a volunteer on Go, and have a DBS check. If the leader doesn't sort this, then be wary & she definitely needs the extra help!

Doing everything in cash & weekly is a huge PITA for admin. I do wonder if she's not coping with the accounts at all? It was my worst nightmare and I was SO pleased to pass them to an amazing lady who does it all for me.

Payments by bank transfer, weekly/monthly/termly are far easier, safer & more transparent. Definitely Gift Aid.

I have a dbs check due to work and other voluntary posts I do. I've been approached by them this week to take on fundraising on a more permanent basis.

Gift aid is now happening

I'm waiting on info from the leaders on annual running costs etc current financial situation so I know what needs to be done.

I've written a 12 month fundraising proposal and given it to the leaders I'll see what they can come back with and go from there

You sound like you'll be a huge asset 😍

You will need another DBS for your Guiding admin role though - GG insists on not a accepting existing checks. Register here.... and that will trigger all of the appropriate actions by Commissioners. www.girlguiding.org.uk/get-involved/become-a-volunteer/register-your-interest/

Well DC do beavers not cubs but definitely not that much fundraising. They only do fundraising on specific events (Eg end of term sports day where we donate and buy back cakes, or local summer fayre we donate things for a stall). That said the leaders have mentioned they end up out of pocket when paying for activities.

Our child is a Beaver and we are involved in helping out with the group. We pay £50/term and get billed for trips/ overnight stays etc. The only fundraising is two annual events that are run by the whole Scout unit here, and are big community events. The money from these goes towards maintaining the hall and subsiding camps etc.
