Spaces for Brownies

In my area here are some units with long waiting lists, and some with places. Talking to the leaders, they say that most people want their children to go where their friends go,. But my friend says she likes her dd to go somewhere different to her school peers. Do I send her to one of the less popular units or accept she probably wont get to go at all?

Well if she wants to go to Brownies there is little point putting her name down for one she probably won't get in to! That would defeat the purpose. Just get her in to one that has space and let her make new friends.

Brownies is great for making new friends. Most packs have girls from several schools. It's great for those times when they've fallen out with friends at school, but still have friends at Brownies.

Defo go to where there are spaces and let her enjoy making new mates

Definitely try out other ones.
As long as it is practical to get them there, then it is a bonus to have friends outside from school on top of those friends they have at school.

No point in sitting on a list that you are never going to reach the top of until it is too late.

If she doesn't settle, she's not lost anything, but if she does, she has gained a lot.

If she tries it and doesn't like it, she can stop, and she's no worse off than if she didn't do it in the first place.
