I've registered to get more information and to see if there's spaces for both dd ( 8 & 9) but was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of costs?

It will vary but I always found Scouts, Cubs, Guides and Brownies the very cheapest of all my kids' activities. I paid maybe £20 per term or perhaps as much as £2 a week?

clary · 20/06/2019 23:09

I meant to add, so a lot less than dance class or gymnastics!

greathat · 20/06/2019 23:11

I pay £12 a month after a recent price hike.

Thank you. I'm hoping there's spaces. They both got fed up with dancing and gymnastics because it was repetitive, I think they'd enjoy the variety of activities at brownies.

It depends entirely on the local unit. Rent is often the biggest cost, then the annual census payment which covers insurance, etc. Some units charge census separately. Some charge a joining fee. Some do a lot of 'fundraising' from parents.

My unit is £40 per term, but that covers everything apart from residentials.

We pay £25 a term (London) with I think an extra £10 in January (might not be January) for some central charge. Pack holiday (2 days/nights, optional) is an extra £40.

I put DD on the list when she was five and was told "oooh I doubt there will be a place until she turns nine, are you sure you want to put her on the list?". In the end she got a place a month after her seventh birthday (but there were some older girls who'd been waiting a while joining at the same time, so I imagine there had indeed been a long waiting list but a lot of girls left at just the right time for us).

My brownies is £30 a term (3 times a year) and is the cheapest thing my dc do(it’s actually cheaper than Guides -£35 and scouts £36). But the fees are set at unit level and depend on rent and the type of activities the unit do, so it would be hard to give an actual figure for your future unit as we don’t know their expenses. Guiders are traditionally resourceful though and generally try to keep it as low cost as possible.

Our Brownie Unit charges £25 a term and a one-off joining fee which covers their badge book. We charge extra for pack holiday (once a year) and optional division/county weekend activity days.

Mine do Beavers (we didn't gel well with Rainbows and it kind of soured us against Guiding) and I think we pay £25 a term plus the odd activity is an extra cost.

salinalee · 26/06/2019 15:07

we pay £45 a term.. £90 for a 3 nights camp

SalrycLuxx · 26/06/2019 15:10

About £30 a term, with special events sometimes extra (eg sleepovers).

We try to manage the waiting lists to ensure girls get a place before too long (where possible). Depends on how many are coming through though.

Ours is a £50 annual fee then about £10/ half term. There is also a lot of fundraising activities organised.

Groovee · 29/06/2019 08:05

My Brownie unit charges £110 a year and covers the annual subscription fee in that (last year that was £39.50) we charge for outside trips but give lots of notice and offer payment plans if they need them
