Anyone know about lacrosse kit?

I need to buy some basic, entry-level lacrosse kit (boots, stick, goggles) for dd. She is not sporty (this is for compulsory lessons at secondary school) so I doubt she’ll do more than the minimum, which means I don’t want to spend much.

Is there anywhere good to get it? I was hoping Decathlon or Sports Direct would have the stuff, but I can’t see anything (except Lacrosse brand boots, which isn’t the same thing at all). I think she will need to try things on, so I’d like a physical shop or at least somewhere with free returns.

for a stick, i would get them off ebay. there is a stick going for ten pounds and the seller will send it by courier. we bought my daughters stick off ebay and she is in the school lacrosse team, it's still going strong 3 1/2 years later. as for goggles, try here (cheapest pair i can find). you don't need specialist lacrosse boots, just football boots, so i would try Sports direct for those x

Don’t forget a gum shield too.

Thanks! I didn’t realise football boots would do - I know where to buy those! And I’m hoping to pick up a stick secondhand either on eBay or at the school uniform sale, but wondered if I needed the right size or if they’re one standard size?

Gum shield is required to be a particular brand, so I know what I’m doing with that.

You can also use hockey boots, which is what we did at school - might be cheaper than football ones

Are hockey and football and lacrosse boots all basically trainers with studs for muddy ground? Or are there some differences?

I had a look at the link that sleep did for goggles, but the reviews for those say they come up tiny (5yo size) , so I’m still looking for an under £50(!) set of goggles. Would hockey ones be the same?

Hockey boots go up above the ankle usually, so are more supportive - but essentially, I suppose, studded trainers...

Football/rugby boots, gum shield, face mask (get it off amazon get an adult female one). Sticks the school has a supply and at DDs school you don't have to buy your own if you don't play for a school team. NorthernSoul and another specialist online supplier are the best for sticks. She will be too big for the starter one expect to pay £45 for a junior one.

found some goggles under £50 :) they are £41 from here

also OP, i recommend sewing a name label onto the elastic of the goggles. they seem to easily go 'missing' at DD's school when someone doesnt have a pair, and they don't always come back!

I used to have to play it at school (spent 5 years making up elaborate excuses to avoid lessons), our school ordered the sticks if I remembered right. no idea where we got the boots from but I would recommend having ones covering the ankle - lacross can be violent (yet only seemed to be playing in private girls schools in my day, not a very ladylike choice of sport!).

no gum shields in those days. I do remember leather gloves being vital for lessons in the winter as the sticks most of us had were metal and your fingers would freeze (unless they were bandaged from lacross injuries.... can you tell I didn't like playing the sport very much, I liked indoor games lessons in the warm)

Thanks, sleep! I was planning to biro dd’s initials on to the goggles - worked for swimming goggles.

And it’s good to know about hockey boots covering the ankle - I’ll see if I can find out what style most of the girls wear, and get that sort.

Agree about gloves for winter - I can still remember the pain of freezing hands being whacked by a stick. I had cheap hockey boots as well for school lessons.

My other tip for the less sporty child is to offer to be goalkeeper - I could easily miss half the lesson getting padded up and then taking it all off again Wink
