Cricket season again 😆

Anyone else starting cricket season?
3 DC who all play, 3 different clubs involved and county for DD.
I feel like tonight is my last night before I lose all my weekends and most of my weeknights to cricket, until September!
The highs are great but the lows when things aren't going well are awful 😕

DS started at nets last season and will begin properly this week. Being honest, it’s his team sport for GCSE PE, but it’s our local village team- they need players, he needs a sport.
His main sport is indoors, so we are hoping for a few nice days in the sun!

DS is back to outdoor cricket this week after winter nets. Same as a PP it's just the local side but he loves it and looks forward to it.

I'm just hoping for another summer like last year - Friday nights with a beer and Sundays with a cuppa in my camping chair were perfect!

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a small cricket rucksack? My 10yearold son cycles himself to training so needs a kit bag which is really short in the back. The distance from shoulder straps to bottom of bag needs to be short to avoid it dragging on the bike tyre. A lot of duffle bags seem to have an extra section at the bottom, or have a hanging down 'foldout bag' for a bat to sit in - either could be a problem.

All I'm really after is a glorified school rucksack (to fit helmet and leg pads) with good strapping on the side for the bat - any suggestions?

Thanks :-)

That looks absolutely perfect thanks. I've ordered one and I'll let you know.

I know I'll have to buy another once he and his kit are a bit bigger, but for now he has to carry his own kit 3 miles, and anything that makes it easier for him is a real help.

Thanks!

Good on your son Toothfairy, that is good going at 10.

You could also consider fitting a rack to his bike. It would separate a drooping bag from the wheel and he could put some of the heavier stuff on it to take the pressure off his back. A rack and a bungee cord is a great combination.

Hang in there OP

Mine are now older teens, and no longer play cricket, so instead it's me who has picked up the bat. Women's cricket teams starting up all over the country

Your time will come Wink

PS hope the kids dad (if he is,around) shares the responsibility of ferrying tgem around!

Oh lord, mine are 19, 17 and 13 and no sign of stopping!! All play adult mens cricket, DD plays ladies and county too and DS2 still plays junior cricket! I'm demented but they love it 😆
Yes DH helps a lot, he does most of the midweek stuff cos I'm at work.
Well done you for playing, I'm too embarassing apparently!

Ooh a cricket thread. My two boys play. The 12 year old plays for under 13s, under 15s and his academy team and the 9 year old plays under 11s and under 13s, I play ladies softball cricket indoors in the winter. Oh and the 12 year old scores for the under 11s and 3rds team. I live at the cricket ground and my dog has his own bowl in the clubhouse.

BikeRunSki · 02/05/2019 19:06

Yep!!

DD plays U9s
DS plays U11s

They both train (same place, different times, so we are there all evening) on Tuesdays, DS plays on Wednesday evenings, DD plays on Saturday mornings. The sunny weekends with a bbq are quite nice, the wet weekday evenings was so. Just don’t ask me to score!

Adidas duffle bag update - it turns out the small size was the package size of a folded up bag, not of the bag itself. However the straps are positioned quite low and so it actually works really well for him.

It comes up a bit high for looking behind you to turn right so it wouldn't be great for cycling on busy roads but the route is incredibly safe (why we chose the club, in fact.)

It's also really light and would probably be a good bag for anyone his age having to carry their own kit.

I'll look at fitting a rack on his next bike - he's waiting to inherit his older sibling's bike at the moment. Thanks for the idea :-)
