Live classical music

DD11 plays 2 instruments and really enjoys listening to classical music. I'd love to take her to a live performance but don't really know where to look. Ticketmaster from by even seem to have a category for classical music!
Looking for something that's lively and interesting. In the South east, Oxford, London, Milton Keynes all easy to get to but happy to travel.

Any recommendations?

Try Royal Acadmey, Royal College for concerts by students,
Southbank Centre for professionals.
What does she play?

Look more locally. There will probably be a community orchestra or several nearby - search FB for groups near you, or at listings for nearby theatres, secondary school halls, even church halls etc. A couple of orchestras round here run a children's concert every year, and there's a scouting wind band (mix of adults, teenagers and a couple of high-flying 10 year olds) who are fantastic. Local secondary schools and the university all do regular concerts but they're not high profile enough to go on Ticketmaster. Your local music service may well run ensemble groups that do performances - I don't know if they're open to the public but I'd expect they are after a certain level.

I think it's really inspiring for children to see other youngsters playing in these things, and the quality is always high enough to be aspirational for us!

The proms are another good option in the summer.

There will be lots in Oxford - excellent student groups and professional groups. Search Oxford music and various events/ticket services will come up.

Lots of amateur choirs and orchestras do concerts at this time of year - have a look in your local library, there’s likely to be a poster or two up. Or it’s also worth looking on local websites or FB groups.

I would advise looking for a shortish concert for her age. Lunchtime concerts are ideal as they are usually last under an hour and are at a time of day when she won't be tired. If you are coming to London there are plenty of free ones in churches, also the Wigmore Hall is a good bet and not too expensive. And yes, the music colleges are worth a look, too.

My kids were blown away the first time we took them to a Video Games Live concert with full orchestra playing music from "Halo" which at the time was THE game and with huge screens showing gameplay.

I find recognisable music helps keep the interest and motivation to practise. TV / Movie or games theme concerts make a huge difference Smile

"How to Train your Dragon" suite
