Ukulele lessons

I am a primary school teacher and thinking of branching out to do kids ukulele lessons. This would be after school for a group of about 12 ten-year-olds, for beginners.
Do you think there would be any interest in this and how much would you pay for an hour lesson? I'm thinking about £6.

Interest and cost is largely dependent on the sort of school you work in, the area etc.
I'm my area, group lessons of 3 or 4 people, for 20 minutes, are about £5 per student. Things like recorder group, school orchestra etc are free.
Be prepared for people to grizzle about the cost - My experience is that parents see music lessons as somehow different from things like gymnastics or dance or other extra curricular activities.
Are you going to ask the pupils to commit to coming each week, or will it be whenever they feel like? Will they pay for a number of lessons in advance?

I was thinking that I would offer pre-paid lessons for a bit cheeper. Say getting 6 lessons for the price of 5 but also have pay-on-the-day. Although I have been advised that I should do just pre-paid to cover my costs. Still not sure!

I think PAYG would make things very difficult. You'd have everyone on different stages. That's hard enough in a group of 2-3, let alone 12.

I think it's a very big group and an hour's a bit long, so I'd want to understand a bit more how it would work. £6 is ok, but as a comparator we pay £5.50 for 30 mins guitar lessons in a group of 3 or 4 with a specialist peri. That feels like better value to me.

I agree. I think 12 in a group isn't so much tuition as coaching, if that makes sense. Our local music service runs similar groups for guitar but I'm pretty sure members aren't total beginners, and the cost is £60 per term for 1.5 hours a week. Likewise, the local comp has a ukelele group that started with complete beginners, but it's free.

Group lessons don't really have more than 4 people in them. Hourly rates for one-to-one private teaching are £30-40 per hour for qualified instrumental teachers.

My DS is quite a bit younger than your target group (year 2) - he goes to a ukulele club at school which is a similar size, lunchtime, 30 mins, and I pay £1 a go (up front - £11 for the term). I have to be honest, while I do appreciate how cheap that is, I'm still not sure I'd be willing to pay significantly more - but I agree with a pp, it will depend a lot on the area and the school. (I pay in total £17pw across four extracurricular activities for him, and am one of probably three middle class families in his class, if that adds any useful context for you.)
