Any Brownie leaders who can help please?

My daughter has just started Brownies and was anxious at the first session, so the leaders kindly let me sit in with her so that she could watch. I got chatting to them at the end of the session as they had clearly been struggling to lead the session, and they told me that they are very confused with the new curriculum and don't know how to deliver it. I used to be a youth worker/children's worker, so am used to making curriculum user friendly and suitable for specific groups of children, so I offered to give them a hand 'translating' it. They were keen for me to help and asked me to write some notes. However, I have brought the sheets home for the next six sessions and am completely bemused by it!! It just doesn't seem user friendly at all, or particularly engaging. Has anyone got any advice or thoughts on how to make it work please?

What are the plans for the next 6 weeks? Some of the activities look better than others, but I'm sure you can make them fun as you deliver them.

I'll help if I can, but as it's all brand new we're all learning as we go.

Just reread my post sounds and it sounds like I am doing the leaders down, which wasn't my intention as they are great with the girls. They are both very young and have just taken over the group, and it sounds the curriculum/new badge book has just completely floored them.

The new curriculum has floored a lot of people. It takes a bit of getting your head round. There are e-learning modules about it on the guiding website, although it will still be confusing until we've done a couple of terms and know what we're doing with it all.

Now if you want help with how to deliver activities, it would help if we knew which activities you've planned to do.

Thanks! Will be back in the morning with the sessions that they've given me - wasn't expecting anyone else to be up the late Grin

Hi, I think everyone is still getting their heads round the new programme! I am happy to help try explain any bits that you are confused about if you need it, and I found the e-learning modules (found on the Girlguiding website) to be quite helpful.

What do they have planned so far?

Groovee · 16/09/2018 19:25

They need to log into the girlguiding website and there are trainings and elearning that will help them understand it.

I felt really overwhelmed in July/August but now we have the resources and have sat down as a team it's falling into place. I actually find it easier as a leader.

GG has plenty of training available for the new programme. There are online modules, webinars and locally arranged face to face training. It does not need interpreting and translating by a 3rd party.

By all means get involved by volunteering and helping directly. Smile
