DS aged 14 started DofE through school. They have charged us £120 but appear to be utterly useless! He is getting support with the expedition but nothing else.
He would like to do his voluntary bit at some sort of animal shelter but they all seem to have a lower age range of 16.
Does anyone have any ideas of know where I can find a list of charities that will take volunteeers from age 14?
Thanks. X

You can search this site by age:
vinspired.com/volunteer

Also, if he already attends something like Scouts he could volunteer with the younger children in Beavers for instance. Animal charities can be a bit fussy about age but if he gets on the phone and rings around a few he might find somewhere. Part of DoE is doing stuff for yourself rather than getting school to find placements for you - although they do seem to have charged a lot!

Agree with Belfast: they're supposed to sort this themselves.
Scouting, charity shop (maybe one that supports animals?), wildlife trust, residential home...

Our parkrun has a regular stream of young people volunteering for DofE. They can use it for their sport or skill too.

My daughter had the same dilema as she was only 13, the only animal place that would take under 16-year olds was riding for the disabled www.rda.org.uk/donatefundraise/volunteering/young-volunteers
Most of the charity shops were from 14, but you had to be quick to get a place our local ones were very popular.
