How much do you pay for swimming lessons?

I am looking for swimming lessons for my 6 year old ds and the local leisure centre charge £10 a month.
For this price you get half hour sessions every Saturday, swimming hat, certificates and medals as you move up the stages.
He also gets free swimming at the leisure centre too.
Is this a good deal?

Yes it’s a good deal!
I pay £20 per month for the same with my local leisure centre.

Eminybob · 13/04/2018 06:33

Oh and we have to pay for our bagels separately.

That's amazing! We pay £23/month for the same and it's considered a good deal in our area (average price £35/month). We're in the south east, I'm not sure if that has a bearing on price.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 13/04/2018 06:36

£23 a month in north west!

Happygolucky009 · 13/04/2018 06:38

We currently pay £19 pcm for the same using a not very local council pool, our local council also do lessons but we didn't rate their lessons as good, so we moved to an independent provider who charged about £50per term (and we didn't get any bag, hat etc). £10 pcm sounds great but ime you need to watch and see if they are teaching your child effectively

Sorry all, stupid phone. Was meant to say £20 a month!

Sounds really good, especially with the free swimming!

We paid £5 a lesson I think, for half an hour - this was second place we went with DD though as she struggled learning to swim and was very fearful of water - it was a very small pool (in a local school) and had small glass sizes with instructors in the water.

Raines100 · 13/04/2018 06:57

£28/m for 30 mins, badges not included. Bite their hands off!

Queenhoneybee · 13/04/2018 07:01

Fantastic deal. I'm in the South & have to pay £9 for the 6 year old & £11 per lesson for the 3 year old. Plus extra for certificates & badges!

treaclesoda · 13/04/2018 07:03

£10 per half hour group lesson.

£10 a month sounds like amazing value, grab it quickly Smile

treaclesoda · 13/04/2018 07:04

Sorry, just saw your update. Even £20 per month is amazing.

MimsyBorogroves · 13/04/2018 07:05

That is good value!

Our council lessons were crap so we went with swimstars, which costed about £8 a lesson. Good because he progressed quickly, but a lot of cash a month.

That's very good . I pay £27 a month by DD for 1/2 hour a week 50 weeks a year.

I’ve never used the local leisure centres for swimming as they have a bit of a poor reputation locally. So we’ve used the following places so far;

  • Company offering one to one or two to one sessions. They worked out at around £13 a session
  • private school offering group lessons at £5 something a lesson
  • our current choice is a local swim company who have their own pool, small groups and the lessons are £9.50 per session. So far these lessons seem to have shown the most promise for DS.
ReinettePompadour · 13/04/2018 09:53

I pay termly but it works out at £6.50 per session. Badges and certificates are £3.50 each in addition to the cost of the lessons.

bruffin · 13/04/2018 09:55

£50 for 6x 1hr lesson adults, not sure what childrens lessons are now.

Thanks for your replies everyone, you've all been really helpful. I will definitely be booking ds in! :)
