Instrument with the most opportunities

I was a "late bloomer" only getting my first clarinet when I was 13 or so. I really liked the way it opened up opportunities such as playing in the school orchestra and wind band.
I'm just wondering which instrument has the most... opportunity(? Not the right word maybe) for socialisation and joining in groups?

My thoughts:
Violin - string groups and orchestras but there are quite a few violinists around so may be harder to get into a "better" orchestra... but loads of people don't have the talent to play very well so if you do, you'll go far (also helps with learning pitches etc)
Flute - wind groups, orchestras but lots of flautists around. May help if you have a piccolo too although everyone sitting near you will hate you
Clarinet - same as flute but less call for Eflat clarinets (in place of piccolo)
Bassoon - wind groups, orchestras and a little played instrument. Expensive even for a starter instrument and it's a big instrument (only met a handful of bassoonists so not sure?)

Which instrument do you think has the most social opportunity?
Obviously YMMV with local area, talent, hard work etc

And, obviously, there are personality types generally associated with each instrument...

Or this is a good guide...

Percussionists are the first on stage (well, maybe with the exception of harpists then) and the last to leave. Prior to the concert there is transportation, positioning, tuning timpani, leaving everything in place because you have to reach it in a second (you don't want to be looking for the tambourine when your cue comes). After the concert there is clearing, covering, packing away, transporting again. While most DC are already snug at home after orchestra rehearsal, my DS is still putting things away. And his parents are always the last audience to leave! Same with drum kit...

French horn. Always in demand as they're pretty rare in schools. They can play orchestra or windband. Sadly not able to play in swing bands though.

trombone - semi pros locally are always busy! Very few kids choose trombone. Mind you I think it looks seriously hard- embouchure doing lots of work and an educated guess with a slide to get it in the right position!

My oldest plays classical guitar; lots of opportunities to play alone and in groups. He took his guitar on camps with him as well.
My youngest plays piano; not having to carry your instrument with you can be both an advantage and an inconvenience. I think piano can offer opportunities to socialise as well because it can accompany most orchestra instruments.

I play viola and the opportunities have been amazing. Not just orchestrally but quartets and other smaller groups. It's easy enough to transition to from violin as well.

Trombone. Brass bands are always needing a trombone player.
